Headed out to capitol forest
«

Going sunday. Any tips? Gonna buy a discover pass even though I don't wanna. Going out for coyotes. I have no clue about the area so I figured I'd go in and scout around a bunch and if I see something that looks like a stand to me then I'll set out the foxpro. First hunt. Can't wait.

Good luck, I hope you kill some of those deer-killers, but it won't be easy. They get a lot of pressure out there.

Getting a lot of pressure would sure make it even sweeter if I managed to get one. I don't need blaze orange anymore correct? Seems like everywhere is high pressure over here. Not having much in the way of clear open areas seems like it'll make it tougher as well. If I get really lucky I'll find some good bear hangout spots and piss off the wife next spring

Right, no orange needed. You'll probably see some archery hunters out there looking for deer.

Speaking of which is there any special ettiquete for moving around in the woods. Not really afraid of eating an arrow, just don't wanna bust anyone's day. I know most bowhunters are good sportsmen, but I also know that with a lower harvest rate this year (seemingly at least) some ppl may have a shorter temper.

No, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just don't hunt a clearcut if there's someone parked there. It's not like hunters out there expect to have a spot all to themselves. You'll also have the hikers, brush pickers, ATV'ers, etc.

I also have a buyer. Just curious if I should bury the skinless carcass if I get lucky or bag it up and bring it home. I'll be prepared to do either.

Serves me right. I got out there way early. It was kinda warm. Cloudy but nice. Sun started coming up so I started to drive deeper to find a good spot deep in the gmu. That's when the fog reduced visibilty to 10 feet and rain started pouring down. That's what I get for posting 3 days in advance... coyotes banded together and did the anti-wraithen rain dance. Before it started raining I was driving around and parking and sending out locator sounds. Not a peep. Those guys are already wise to me and I haven't done anything yet. I did get to see some nice views as the sun was coming up between the fog layer and the cloud layer tho.
I felt all those were necessary for this morning
