i have a Tikka 300 win mag... outstanding light gun but if I were going to get another on in the caliber(s) you are suggesting - no doubt in my mind it would be a regular 270... Take a look at the 270 ballistics and I think you would see why...   Short Mags - shells are to expensive and hard to find unless you are in the big city...

 :yeah:   My thoughts exactly.

I would not personally allow ammo cost or availability to play a large part in my decision.  However, I generally only shoot a few rounds per year at big game animals.  Ammo cost is minimal compared to other costs.  If an extra $2.00 per round gives me an edge for a once in a season marginal shot, it is worth it to me.

Just my $.02 (or maybe I should say just my $2.00)
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

To me, i like to be diffrent than the other guy. I shoot silvertip(oldschool) ammo. Just because i like to compare when someone says "its their deer/elk".
I looked at them the other day, nice rifles! If you have the funds, go for it!

They are great guns I have one in 30-06 incredible accuracy easy carry and  handling. I have busted my arse and dropped the gun so bad that I checked the point of impact no problems. The rings provided are just fine.

If tikka is long action only than go with 06. I'm big fan of .308 short actions.

I own a t3 in .300wsm , recoil is very moderate and topped with a leopod 3x9 with leopod bases and rings its a very dealy combo . my buddy shot his deer and sheep both with a .300 wsm and 180 accubonds both where crushing one shot kills .
