Cherry Valley Questions

I dont have much time to hunt these days, so I was thinking about heading to Cherry Valley tomorrow for some duck hunting but have some questions about this area.  I moved here last Jan and this is my first time hunting birds on public land in WA.   Sooo here are my questions:

-Are there specific blinds all over the unit to hunt in?  If so, and they are all taken, can you hunt outside a blind on a bucket?
-I hate to intrude on some regulars location, so what is protocol when marching out in the morning to find a spot?
-How many people should i expect to be there?  Ive heard a lot, but is it so busy you are shooting on top of others?

Overall I just don't know where to go once i pull into the parking lot...  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

lol, just try to avoid weekends and mentally prepare yourself for the worst just in case. Public land seems to attract slobs and sky busters. It can be entertaining if you have a good sense of humor,  but it's not for everybody that is for sure.

It’s public land and therefore first come, first served on blinds.  Setup anywhere you want just try to be a reasonable distance from others.  The whole place is flooded now and the last pheasant release has happened so it’s all duck hunters now; you shouldn’t have too much company.

Duvall post office or cop shop
But like CP said... The orange army is gone. but there isn't really anything there to attract ducks but water. But it attracts hunters for some reason.

I'd be happy to meet up with ya and walk the area (maybe do some pass shooting simultaneously). I've only hunted it for a coupla years but know it fairly well. It is flooded pretty good right now which means the one decent blind will be under water at the floor level at least. I'm not very tall - 5'8" - and it was waist high on Thanksgiving. I dunno if the fields are draining much or not. I'm actually hoping not as it might be excellent for my sneak boat...

I live right above Cherry Valley site.  Not really much of a duck hunting location.  Sometimes, shooting is decent (if flooded).  But, it is primarily a pheasant release site.  So, lots of guns and dogs running around chasing a few birds.  Go east young man (that's what I do!).

You could go all old school and just give it a try.  That's what we used to do prior to the internet.  Trial and error, it will sharpen your waterfowling skills.  Best of luck.

Thanks! Might do. Although, I do love getting away from work and driving out to check it myself.... except that often enough I end up with my waders on and gun across my shoulder.

I've hunted out there several times this season ... not since before Thanksgiving, so I appreciate the heads up about the flooding ... I was gonna head there when I get off today

Hunting has been OK ... seen birds, but not a lot, but from talking to others that have hunted out there back at the trucks, it's generally better later in the season.

There are a lot of little ponds and canals to hunt over, if the blind is used, or under water, just find a spot to hole up and watch the skies.  The birds that HAVE been around respond OK to calling (not that I'm anywhere near a good caller) but they tend to fly high, which makes shooting a challenge.
