mule deer
« on: November 27, 2011, 05:40:49 PM »
Well since i filled my elk tag, that leaves me wth my deer tag. Ive seen them in the nile unit when hunting elk but i nvr really went after them my main focus was elk and researching that animal for a couple years. Well i got this weekend to fill this tag and cant cram all the research in a week time period. So can anyone tell me what the basics are for mule deer. Where would the be hideing at, depth of snow can come into play, are they more of a sage brush type animal or deep forested. Do they travel or stay in a general vicinity?

Mulies can live just about anywhere. Sage to Mountain tops... In some of the areas we hunt, some mulies live there the entire year while the majority of the deer migrate thru the area as snow dictates.

I would pick a GMU known for good harvest numbers, then I would get up high and start glassing. Glass and glass until your head aches. Take a break, do it again.

Just go up in the area you were on Fri. and shoot an deer instead of an elk. I seen your truck on the side of the road as I was going in to the Nile on Fri. Head up there on the top and there are plenty of deer. Ribka and I both seen plenty up there yesterday  ;)

And dont be one of the dumb a$$es that dont believe in chains ( I know you know to put chains on your truck)  :chuckle: :chuckle:

I was on my way in to set up camp and sliding to stop and write a note was not in the plans  :chuckle:

Besides, you passed right by my camp. I was camped on the left just past the blue forest. I was in the camper about 50yars off the road.

Didn't you see the Barbie Jeep?
