Great bull Kevin...you paid your dues (money and time in the woods) so congratulations. Pay no heed to those on this site who are jealous. One day they may learn that life is so much easier when you quit worrying about making other peoples values match your own.

I agree it's a hell of a bull and thanks for your contribution to wildlife management. I just don't understand the jealousy factor that some people exhibit.

But if it were me I'd feel a whole lot better earning that bull and hunting with friends and family rather then just writing a check.

He didn't buy a trophy, he bought the opportunity to hunt. He had two guys and a gal with him on his hunt, no different than the majority of us would have had if we had drawn the raffle tag. :twocents:

Congrats to the hunter on one heck of a bull!!

I understand some people don't agree with the way this bull was killed but it really surprises me when it bothers them so much that they can't even comment on what an exceptional animal this is...dead or alive. I guess it depends on what one focuses on.  To me it is about  the animal (which is exceptional regardless of who killed it or how it was killed) and not the hunter. Even if the animal was poached it wouldn't take anything away from how exceptional the animal truly is. In this case it is an exceptional animal taken legally by a very fortunate hunter....and I don't care how many eyes you have on one these animals anyone who hunts them knows bulls like this don't come easy. The hunt still has to happen and there is no guarantee of success. Certainly, his odds of success are increased by 1. Having the Governors Tag.  2. Having experienced help.   3. Hunting in areas where exceptional animals live.   4.  Having a significant amount of time to hunt.

I don't see this hunter on here telling everyone about what a great hunter he is and how he can hunt better than anyone. I am sure he knows he is very fortunate for the opportunities he has been able to create in his life.

I know the area where two world class whitetail live right now. I have multiple trail cameras (kind of like the guides locating the bulls in this case) in the areas they live. I have dedicated over 400 hours of scouting. I am blessed with a job that gives me a good amount of time off (Military), a wife that is a hunter herself and understands what drives me and thus have been able to spend untold hours in a treestand hunting just these two animals....I have all of this and I still haven't got it done.... because it is still hunting and there is no guarantee of success.

For those who say they could get it done under similar circumstances as this guy...Yes...it is quite possible that you could....but I don't really understand the point you are trying to make??

If you love hunting and you have the "means" that this guy has I am sure you would use your "means" legally to help increase your odds of success. It may not be what this guy did but I am sure that whatever you chose somebody would criticize it...heck...there is probably people on this site right now who will criticize you for how you currently hunt.

What it all really boils down to is jealousy. I know I'm jealous...man what a bull. :chuckle:

never let it be said i don't think for one second this hunter didn't hunt hard and earn this trophy!  am i jealous?  you bet!   I think it would be AWESOME to have the cash to buy the governors tag!  but buying a tag isn't the same as just buying a trophy bull.
I have NO doubt this hunter hunted his butt off and was was successful in killing a dream bull, and I truly am happy for him.  Do i wish i had the money and opportunity to do the same?  You Bet!

after my previous posts, many have come to the table with great first hand information that this guy was in fact hunting with friends and relatives.  to be able to share the experience of hunting a bull of this caliber with those close to you makes me doubly jealous.

again, congrats to the hunter!

Are you implying wastickslinger is a chick?! :chuckle:

Bull of a lifetime.  Congrats to the hunter.  It's his tag, and he can plan and execute his hunt any way he wants.  Don't hate the player, hate the game if you feel that way.  I don't see the game changing anytime soon. :twocents:

I gotta tell ya Kevin, that's a damn good one! I gotta say, instead of attacking this guy, i bet all us guys could learn alot from this hunter, he hunts his butt off each year, and for sure earns what he harvests. Yes, he has some money to buy some great tags to give him the OPPORTUNITY to hunt, he doesn't buy his trophy, he buys the OPPORTUNITY to earn a trophy. Each year we see the same whining about someone who is fortunate enough to be able to earn a great animal. Why can't we all just tell kevin he got a great animal, who cares if someone helped him, who cares what tag he has, who cares how much money he spent, cause none of that matters. When we harvest an animal, we need to thank the animal for allowing us to harvest it, and thank ourselves for harvesting an animal for more than just a trophy....

 :yeah:

I went to High School with Kevin and his brother, so I know first hand what kind of guy he is.  I would do the same thing If I could afford to. He has been hunting for a bull off and on since the late summer/early fall. He didnt buy that bull, he bought the opportunity to go and find one.  The area where he shot that nice bull is steep and deep, I know alot of guys who couldnt handle hunting in that kind of terrain one day much less weeks on end.

I think you are the first one to point out that he won the tag via the raffle and didn't buy it. That's funny considering all the conjecture.

He bought the tag. "Auction tag."  Another member won the raffle tag.  I mean extremely lucky member!
