Yes.  I think we were just on different wavelengths.  I tend to operate on a very unique one.

DBLDWN, I understand your frustration but don't worry about it......it's a great buck.

One thing I've learned is a sheet doesn't mean anything and you could give that buck to 10 different "official" scorers and they would all come up with different number.  I had the same thing happen last year so I told people who wanted to put a tape on to come on over and do it themselves.  I had people measure my buck from 170' (taxidermist) to 191' and I chuckled to myself every time someone came up with a different score.

If you really want to justify the 190' mark just wait the alloted time and have it officially scored and signed. Then you can slap it up here and rub it in someone's face if it bothers you that much.......

If you remember thats why the first piece of advise I gave you right after you drew was ..."Dont get caught up in the score! shoot what you will be happy with!!!" You know another thing you can do is just stop scoreing it once the one guy reaches 190"!!!  :chuckle:

Paul told me he wanted to keep the pics down to a minimum!  I will respect that for his own reasons.  Though, there have been many people in his group of friends and then their group of friends who have forwarded them on, me included.

Paul and I were afield when DBLDWN called me.  He said he had a buck spotted that we needed to look at.  He sent a fuzzy pic.  Paul, decided we needed to have a look!  When we arrived and got him in our spotting scopes my first impression was he is a 170 class!!  Paul had thought the same thing, and later told me he thought “Grant’s going to be pissed!”  We had a lot of work into where we had been when the call came in….  Onto the hunt, we were elevated and about 700 yards away when we started critiquing the buck.  With time he started growing in score for me; he just looked great from all angles, depth of forks, tine length, and mass.  When Paul chose to shoot the buck I had him estimated at 185 gross with a 26” outside spread.  DBLDWN had the same, plus 5 on gross.

Paul and I have spent a lot of time together hunting and playing throughout the years; going all the way back to middle school some 30 years ago!  Paul has been blessed in business, and used this opportunity to spend a lot of time with friends close to home and meet a few new ones too.  I was thrilled that a good friend bought this tag and I was able to spend some time with him on his hunts and I was with him when he killed a buck he is very happy with.  I was able to meet some new guys and create new friendships myself.  Paul couldn’t have been any happier with this buck, and would have been happy with several other beautiful bucks he and his friends spotted.

The measurement! I tapped the buck and Paul wrote down the measurements.  Paul added it up in the end to get the gross score of 191.  I was not surprised by this number.  I did not check his math, but if there are two people I trust in math its Paul and DOUBLELUNG!  I’m generally close on score comparing them to my P&Y bulls and bucks I’ve had measured and taping every piece of bone I get my hands on!

The “guess the score” game!  I don’t care, nor does Paul on what people guess or what it actually tapes out to.  I love playing the game too!  I’ve been way off with pictures and with some bucks in person too, as we probably all have.  But, generally I would like to think I'm pretty close!

Here are the facts.  Paul and his friends had fun!  The buck was located by an acquaintance of mine and Paul chose to kill this buck.  Paul is happy and his friends are happy!  Oh, more importantly for me, my wife is happy Paul killed his buck! :chuckle:

:twocents: On a side note!  What frustrates me most is when folks post locations!  Whether true or not, it’s not your hunt nor were you apart of it! So please, don’t even guess or post "what you heard."  It clams a lot of us up even more.  Posting locations, whether your own hunt or someone else's is a huge deal for me on these hunting sites and another topic within itself!  I love pics and stories as much as the next guy, that is why I'm here!  But, please leave the location out of it!

If Paul gives me the , I'll throw a couple more pics up giving you all some better angles.

Sounds like an awesome hunt and a deserving guy. I'm glad that was the case with this tag. You hate to see such a beautiful trophy go to a jerk.

As far as the score... with a story and memories of a lifetime, is it really that relevant? Where is the emotions icon with two smiley faces having a pissing match?

I fully agree. Speculations do just piss people off and it should be allowed to remain private if the hunter wishes it too... but with that, I don't see the harm in telling a general area or gmu? Most of us would never get it any more narrowed down than that, or have the opportunity to hunt it anyways.  :dunno:

There was no disrespect intended in my score, as I said in the same post I thought it was a solid buck and the hunter should be congratulated. My score was based on the field image and I think anyone that looks at the image and compares my scores it will be easy to see how I came up with what I did. There are posts on here all the time where we are all speculating on a score, often times guys are 14" off either way and I don't see such a big deal being made out of it, why this time?

It's a very nice buck and one that anyone would be happy to have tagged in this state. If I missed it then who really cares, it was a guess and nothing more. I can tell you I would much rather be the guy that tells the hunter it is a 178" buck and find out later that it was really 190, than the guy that tells him it's 190 and it turns out to be 178. :twocents:
