I've been wearing Vasque goretex boots for years.  Never had an issue with them.  Good fit, lightweight and last pretty well.

If you want truly waterproof boots for the westside, consider getting rubber boots. I have a couple pairs, one insulated and one not, and I wear them all the time. Lacrosse makes some good boots and I think Cabelas has some that would be worth looking at. Also I saw these Irish Setter boots on sale at Wholesale Sports for $90. Looks like a good deal and I'd probably order a pair if I wasn't so broke right now:

any model in particular or would you say all their products are good? I know the Danner Pronghorn model for example has had bad reviews.

I have two pair of the Vasque Wasatch GTX.  One pair has 2 hunting seasons on them and they are holding up just fine, no leaks.  They are lightweight.  I liked them so well that I bought another pair before they discontinued them.

I wouldn't go with the Jackal's.  Feet get soaked and there is no traction on soles.  Very slippery when walking on wet logs.  Used them early bow season this year and won't be using them again.

+1 on the LaCrosse rubber boots.  They are dry and provide adequate hiking support.  Hiking support is nothing like a lace-up leather or synthetic boot, but they are just fine for common hunting terrain including side-hilling and scrambling up mucky mountains.   Mine have 3 seasons on them now and many miles without issue.  I will be getting another pair (insulated) at the next opportunity.  I hear LaCrosse's warranty/customer service is decent if you end up having to use it.

I have had good luck with my Meindl Denali's, so far.  My feet were the only thing dry when I got back to the truck last Wednesday.  It was nasty out.

Love my Meindles too.Think they are Denalis. Not insulated but do have a little memory foam so they can get a hair warm at times.
