As with most of us, I to started my hunting career off by being mentored and guided by my father. He instilled a passion in me for hunting and the outdoors that will live through me and my children for hopefully many more generations. I still remember my first deer ...like it was yesterday and not thirty year ago. She was a beautiful mulie doe up on badger mountain. I shot her with my grandads old 30-30 Winchester. That guns serial number is in the low 100,000's.its old!! Now my dad is old, almost as old as that gun well not really, but old enough to know that joints fail and when they do it puts an end to bow hunting especially when its your shoulder. My dad tried to continue bow hunting but gave it up 15 years ago. Then last year he got a new lease on his shoulder in the form of a complete shoulder replacement. He slowly got stronger and soon picked up his old recurve and started shooting it quite well! That's when the bug hit him hard to start bow hunting again. It was time to start paying him back for the years and love he showed me. So at age 70 I set him up with a new Hoyt rampage with all the gadgets. It was fun watching him shoot a new compound with a release He caught on real fast and was soon shooting tight groups to40 yards. And was ready to hunt. So I dropped him off at 6:45 am at a ground blind I had put up a week ago. By 8:00 am he had already drawn his bow twice and been busted twice by a five point . . He was a little discouraged and took a break at 10;15 . We had a talk and I ran him back to the blind by11:00. He was ready to sit the rest of the day. I go back to doing my" honey doos" so I can go hunting and at 11:25 I get a call from my dad saying he shot a 4x4 and thought the shot was good. . I told him to sit tight and I would be there in 35 minutes. I get there and we take up the trail and had good blood in the first 5 feet! We followed a copious blood trail and were soon rewarded with a beautiful young buck.!!! Thanks dad for being there and I hope we have many more seasons with the bow!!
