Shed Hunting????
« on: November 04, 2011, 01:22:54 PM »
On the way home from work this morning I drove past a large road kill buck. He looked to be a large three or four point. Mind you I passed him at about sixty MPH so I didn't get a real good count. I was telling my son about the buck on the way back into town to pick up my pickup from the shop and as we passed the buck I pointed him out to my son.
My son says "No dad that's a doe, it's a real big doe but a doe none the less. We made a bet for a hundred bucks that if "He" was still there on the way home we'd settle the bet then. Well, low and behold I couldn't hold my kid to the bet but now we're wondering what kind of low life shed hunts a road kill. I don't know exactly what's wrong with it but it seems wrong on so many levels.
What do you think?

I've seen alot of road kill bucks around where i live with cut off antlers. And about two weeks ago I seen a deer on the side of the road with its whole head cut off.

If it was legal I see nothing wrong with it....kind of stupid it's not legal.

First mule deer horn I ever picked up was doing 50 mph into the bucks rib cage. First thing I did was put the horns in my pickup before I started cleaning up the mess all over the road. hahah

I might be mistaken, but don't the gamies do that sometimes if they can't immediately hall the carcass away, to keep others from "trophy hunting"?
The only difference between a butt kisser and a brown noser is depth perception.

Makes sense to me that its illegal because if it wasn't then people would drive around with big bumpers on there trucks looking for big bucks and bulls to hit at night. But if people were honest and happen to stop where they saw a dead buck in the side of the road and cut the horns I see nothing wrong with that. It's better for someone to enjoy them instead of them rotting in one of the dumpsites

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I do agree with the law though, if it were legal a poacher could kill a deer, hack its head off, then if checked by a warden he could just say well I found it dead, and more than likely get away with it.
