I got a coon that comes around the place in the daylight(my buddy  the midwife of the pups has seen him twice) and also comes around after dark and gets within 10 feet of my birddog kennel,he was climbing up the tree right next to the birddogs,with them a yapping away,my old lady yelled that she had the light on him and he was five foot up,I fiddled around and found the ammo for the 22 and by the time I got out there with the light he was gone(she took the light off him and came back in the house).I'm a little worried the bugger is rabid due to the daylight sightings and it's fearlessness of the dogs in the kennel.Worst part is I got some birddog pups  and don't want the crazy buggar getting in their kennel in search of feed they are big but not near big enough to fend off a crazy coon.I'm not about to call the state and have them send out their contractor who will want 300 bucks from me to get rid of the problem(know what the price i because my neighbor used them at their other house down the road).I have a live trap out but have only trapped the farmcats,ferel cats and the token yipper dog mini pincher.

Set your trap up off the ground like on a table, but make sure it is sturdy, (so you don't catch skunks) bait with vanilla wafers and the little marshmellows.  Handle with heavy gloves, call fish and game and see if they will pick it up to be tested.  Be very careful, I think your suspicions COULD be spot on, either way it needs to be eliminated.  If I was close to you I would do it for free.  Be careful and let us know how it goes.

The daylight hours thing could be from a big number of things? Definitely one of those warning signs. You could also made the old fashioned coon trap yourself. Build a box. Cut hole in box. Drive nails around hole so the points are just far apart that the coon hand fits inside. Place a beloved coon object in box. That way when he grabs it he can't get his hand outta the pickle jar. Just keep an eye on it and have your .22 ready.

Coon move in the daylight all the time. It just means he's hungry or horny.
