I just did a 3.5 x10x 40 on a 300 ulta mag with a 180 gr bullet and with a 200 yard zero the dials  turn to 850. I would not rule out a 3.5x10 power scope if you are shooting deer size game or bigger but if you shooting smaller targets then the 4.5x14 makes sense..

Ok so i think this is the model that i am thinking about. You still have a full circle and duplex right, just like a regular scope. And you can use regular 40mm bases? If you dont mind me asking where and how much did you buy it for?

Yep, just like a standard scope, the front glass is curved to clear the barrel so normal rings work great. only downfall, is scope covers, it comes with a nylon one, Leupold makes some but they are spendy, I modified a butler creek for mine.

Got mine online from opticsplanet (ebay) for $750

This was before I got my turrett in the mail, but my brother has his on, and he hit dead center on the target at 800yds, one shot. Turn up the volume and hear it hit! You can see his mark in the center black.

You  bet, first turrett is free, you have pay for additional ones.

Enjoy!

Just got back from Cabelas and bought the 4.5X14 40mm CDS for my 270 WSM. Now need to settel on a load combination befor I send for my turrett. Been shooting Federal 140 accubond factory loads with good results but expensive. Going to try building my own now.

My Win. .270 WSM loves the 140 Accubonds with 67.0 grains of Magnum... shoots clover leafs and better all day

Is that possible? I know the 3L will fit with standard rings, only because of the glass cut out, if it was full circle no way.

I just mounted a CDS 4.5-14x50 VX3L on my 338WM and I used medium rings.  mounted with some room to spare.

If it had been a VX3, I am guessing high rings would have been needed-no way the Mediums would have worked.

Here are some photos of a VX3L with Medium rings.

(by the way, the flip covers are really cool!  Overpriced, but really cool!)

BTW, http://www.natchezss.com has good prices on Leupold scopes, they offer free shipping, and you can select a "gift" with purchase.  The gift can be a set of the leupold alumina flip covers, or a leupold bore sighter.  this makes it a pretty darn good value!

They only have 2 choices of scopes with the cds... good deal otherwise
