Arrow Help/Explaination
« on: July 13, 2008, 11:05:23 PM »
I am curious about something.

I have three different arrow set-up as follows:

Beman MFX 27" with Blazer Vanes at 401gr

Beman ICS Hunters 27" with Quik-Spin Speed hunters/wraps 416gr

Blakchawk Vapor Pro 28" with FOB/wraps 463gr

Why would the MFX and Vapor shoot the exact same impact point out to 30 yards, yet the ICS shoot high?

I thought the ICS would group closer since they are in the middle, yet they do not.

Make any sense?

One shooting 3 different arrow combinations like that is a  :bdid: ....  :chuckle: You should pick one shaft and fletch combination and stick with it.  But to answer your question those quick spins are a gimic and made to catch the hunter not kill the game.  There is some good thought and truth behind them but do they really work?   :dunno:  And as for them shooting high it's probably becaue of the vanes.  I have shot the same shaft numerous times but with different vanes on each and it will affect where they hit as far as left to right and high and low.  That would be my guess just because I have had that same problem and it came down to vane choice.

What I like about the quik-spin is that they are the same profile as the Blazers, but they are half the price.  Don't know about their spin, but they seem to fly okay.
I took one of the MFX and stripped the blazers and replaced with the QS.  It hits right with the blazers.  All of the MFX will group nearly on top of each other, regardless of the fletch type.  The FOBs group right with the MFX.
I an going to fletch Blazers on an ICS and see how it shoots.  I tried it with a FOB, and it still hits high left.

Trying to decide on what arrows I want to choose as my primary.  I like the flight and cost of the Vapors, but they do not penetrate as well as the MFX, at least in my bag target.  I was hoping I could get the MFX dialed in and stick with those........
I have had the ICS since I started shooting, but never really happy with them.

I would go with the MFX because they are a hidden insert shaft and are a lot stronger.  But thats just my  :twocents: .... Anyways that's weird on the flight then?  I dunno what to tell ya other than each shaft reacts differently?

Is your spine the same on all three different shafts? I have seen too stiff of a shaft throw the flight off.

ICS shafts are 340, MFX shafts are 400, and Vapor shafts are 350.  I would expect the MFX to hit higher being they are the lightest, but they don't.  Spine seems fine on the 400s.  I was thinking I did not need 340, so that is why I am trying the 400 spine.

I have a dozen of the ICS hunters and they hit lower then my gold tip 22series pros and the pros are heavier. I would put my money on the different spine of the arrows, and they are all made different.  :twocents:

I'd bet that the difference in FOC is the root cause of them hitting where they are.  Different fletching with the same point weight will have different FOC.  The QS are heavier than a Blazer, and the FOB's are heavier than the QS.  The Blazer's have the highest FOC of the 3 choices you gave.  At 30 yards, you're spitting hairs to notice a point of impact difference in that 15 grains of weight difference, but you will notice a difference if the FOC is different.  The much heavier weight of the Vapor is offset by the FOC being lower because the FOB is heavier.  If you put blazers on the Vapors you'd find that the FOB's hit higher than the blazers simply because of FOC.
