I did not kill the buck but I learned of his demise at the hands of a deserving hunter. R.I.P. big boy. The other buck is not a WA buck. It is the Amish Buck that was killed in Adams County Ohio by John Schumucker back in 2006. It netted 295 7/8 and is the seventh largest free ranging whitetail ever recorded. Absolutely a giant.

The WA state Records (All Methods) is:
Typical: 200 3/8 / Stevens County / James Cartwright / 1992
Non-Typical: 236 3/8 / Pend Orielle County / John Gretener /1931
The Cartwright buck is currently the 13th largest buck ever recorded in the B&C record book. I wrote an article on the buck that appeared in the December 2010 / Jan 2011 issues of North American Whitetail.
You can read the story (without pics) here:

Not the news I was hoping to hear DB. Do you think we will see a write up on the buck on here, (if they arent a member could you coax them to do so)? Its great to see a whitetail of that caliber in WA state.

Not for now. The hunter is very humble and wishes to remain discrete.
I agree it is very promising to know that WA holds animals like these. The Typical I mentioned in my post above is a good example of what this place is capable of producing if they are given the time to grow.

Something that is not well known....Stevens County actually ties several other counties (in the nation) for 18th place all time in the Boone and Crockett Record books for non-typical whitetail. If you take into consideration two other whitetail that are from Stevens County but listed as Hunters and Loon Lake then Stevens County ties two other counties in the nation for 14th all-time non-typicals..... So the possibilities for world class animals here is very real!!

Oh yeah... Stevens county.. 'Public land', Without being too specific does have the makings of some monster bucks. In 2004 and 2006 my son and brother'n law (veteran hunter that knows what he's looking at), saw what they believe to be the same buck that he estimated to be +180" typical. Probably dead now. He did have a scar on his spine above the shoulders as an identifying mark. While not incredibly wide, G2 G3 tines were estimated at more than 14" tall. Both said he was 7-8 points per side with incredible eye guards that nearly met the height of the main tips coming forward. Great mass. Realize that field judging while trying to get a shot is a difficult task, the separate accounts from both hunting in the same area two years different, with another account/sighting the year before by his brother'n law do lead me to believe that there is at least one (or was), coming from great gene pool with the correct feed to produce what anyone in North America would consider a true trophy class animal from Washington.

I'm glad a deserving hunter got him DB...must mean he was "after" him...which is cool. I'd be happy to "luck" upon a buck like that, but when a guy targets a deer like that, then kills him... wowsa! Sorry you didn't get him man!

I have some pics of my huntin partner that got a monster in the Pearrygin Unit this year on a permit rifle hunt. The thing has a really nice rack. I can't figure out how to downsize the picture so it'll fit on here. I could frwrd it to someone that know's how to do that and they could either send it back to me or just post it here.
