With elk season winding down I am starting to look more towards focusing on blacktails again. My hopes of killing a bruiser buck are slowly dwindling away, but I paid $180 for my multi season tag and I really would like to fill it before December 31. I know people do not like others asking where they hunt on this forum sometimes but I am going to ask anyways. I usually hit up the capital forest during late december but We never seem to find many deer. I like going there because we can cover a lot of ground as apposed to walking behind a locked gate. We can drive somewhere, glass a cut, make a stalk and then move on. I was wondering if there was any state land around or other public land that other people have had some success or even places that you know of that you guys would be willing to share. I would greatly appreciate any advice I can get. Thank you!

My dad has seen some real monsters on Ft. Lewis. Personally,  I would go east.
The more boys I meet, the more I love my dog!!

Ya going east really is not an option. I am a freshman in college and need to stay around here for the holidays. I wish I could go east trust me!

I jumped a dandy last night in my usual spot, on my way in to check my trail camera. He was bedded down in the clearcut and suddenly jumped up from about 30 yards. My experience is this is pretty common for the bucks this time of year, not much hunting pressure and the rut is basically over, so they just bed down in clearcuts. My spot is in a walk in area so the deer are not as afraid to be out in the open in the daylight, but I have seen them do the same thing in winston which gets a lot of pressure this time of year, they apparently think they are hidden, and in most cases they are. Use your glass and look over the clearcuts hard, concentrating on the edges and up high where the bucks can look over the area. Think september hunting again only the deer are much harder to see without their summer coats.

So it looks like I will be heading up to Capital forest tomorrow. I cant seem to find any other places that are easy to access. My uncle will be going with me and his back has been killing him lately which limits his mobility and The cf seems like the only place around here that we can cover some ground
