Shift some 2nd deer permits to antlerless permit opportunities
« on: December 12, 2011, 07:31:13 AM »
Due to the price increase some 2nd deer permits did not sell, and expectations that will continue.  Shift some 2nd deer permits to antlerless permits vice 2nd.  In other words they will add some of the 2nd deer permit numbers to the antlerless permits for some areas.

This one is interesting; the rationale behind some of the 2nd deer tags was to offset the number of antlerless permit holders who ended up taking a buck in the general season, rendering their anterless permit useless.

So the tag shifting is targeted to some or all of those units which were undersold this year? Was there discussion associated with the statement "expectations that will continue"?

BTW, thanks for posting all of these.  Great information.

Or how about drop the price of a second deer permit. Make it the same price as the first deer permit. I GUARANTEE you drop tje price and more permits get sold. It is simple economics. If the supply is more than the demand drop the price. You can only increase the price once the demand outweighs tje supply. How can tje WDFW be that stupid. It actually amazes me. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad what they do to our hunting.

The 2nd deer tag is only $22 for kids, which is a fair price. I would propose that they simply make all the 2nd deer tags for youth only.

This would provide increased opportunity for kids to have a successful hunt so they can become addicted to hunting like all of us already are.   :IBCOOL:

Colockum,

You know that NO government agency has every taken an economics course in its life!  They can not even balance a checkbook!   :bash:

To a degree that is a great idea bobcat, however, I would go a step further.  Make a YOUTH tag for the general season that is an either sex tag to begin with, anyone 15 and younger can participate.  Or do like they do for Turkey season.  Have a youth only weekend, and make it either sex, but only in units that could handle the harvest of does.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Yes but isn't the adult tag $65. Which is not a fair price.

Well, everyone's going to have a different opinion on whether it's fair or not. I do know the youth price of only $22 is fair and I hope they still have these 2nd deer tags available in a few more years when my kids are old enough to hunt.

Myself, I may apply for a 2nd deer tag next year and if drawn, I may not purchase it until the time comes to hunt, and then I will decide if I have the time to use it or not.

One thing's for sure, if a person only thinks of it as if they are purchasing deer meat for $66, it's probably not worth it. But if you think of it as a chance to go on one more hunt, when otherwise you would have to wait another year to deer hunt, then it seems it would be well worth it.

But it's all a matter of having the time and money to go one a doe hunt, without having to sacrifice your other planned hunts. If i was retired I would do it, no questions asked.

I know a few people that live out on certain island that usually barly sell thier permits or don't... They ALL have said they won't be buying them next year. You take a look at many GMU's that have 2nd deer that are in the San Juan, or Whidby, and it is hard to get permission. The problem with the numbers of deer have more to do with acess to private property than anything else...  :twocents: Got to know some one.. I have permission on a guys 5 acres, but only becasue i bow hunt it. He don't mind hunting, but doesn't want trouble from his neighbors.

IMHO $66 is too much simply because it costs more than the first deer tag. They Havnt sold enough because people think it costs too much. Simple solution to solve the problem is to decrease the cost. Like I said its simple economics.  If tyou can't increase the price of something if the supply outweighs the demand and expect to sell very much.

I agree they should decrease the cost for these tags if the intent of having 2nd tags truly is to reduce deer populations in areas where they do in fact need to be reduced. But some of the GMU's they have 2nd tags available in I really have to question if a reduction in deer numbers is needed.

Bobcat are you saying that you doubt a decision that the WDFW has made.  :dunno:  I dare you to show me a single thing the WDFW has screwed up. :chuckle:

2nd deer Are antler less tags. some my be whitetail specific but all are antler less. I know for a fact that was not the case a couple of years ago. The only reason you have that kind of tag is to reduce herd size... i have not seen This years unsold tags, however i know island 2nd deer tags were below or near tag levels for the draw... Can some one post this years numbers? i am very curious.  the ONLY thing that would make be change my mind about a 2nd deer tag is the $$$ at least for the island i could hunt.  :twocents:
