Firs time duck hunt
« on: December 10, 2011, 08:15:23 PM »
My brother and i decided to start doing some waterfowl this year, so today we hit the lake. got there about 6:45 (kinda late) and hopped in the boat with two friends and headed for a nice little blind on shore. we set up, threw some deeks and waited. sure enough with a bit of patience ducks came in. mind you we didn't get any ducks close enough to shoot at without just wounding them and losing them. but none the less we had a blast and are going to head out again tomorrow. one question though, i have heard a lot of bad things about hunting waterfowl on the west side...is any of that true or just people spouting off?

A little of both on the hunting.  A bigger population on the wetside means more hunters and pressure.  The ducks get educated pretty quickly.  Keep at it, find what works for you and stick with it.  there is several posts by veteran duck hunters here, read some and gain some knowledge.  We even have a open seat trend, see if you can find a duck hunter close by that will take you under his/her wing :twocents:
