Last chance failure- still some idiots around.
« on: December 10, 2011, 04:38:09 PM »
Been a bit of a rough year for hunting this year.  I've killed nothing.  Haven't really even been able to get out.  Shot a few birds, but no 4 legged critters.  Long story.

Anyway, finally snuck out 2 days ago, last couple days for late archery here on the east side.  I rolled into some state land on a river.  Quite a grunt to get in place, but found an old built in tree stand over a field.  As good as anywhere, and I knew there would be deer all over the field come dark.  I was just freezer hunting.  Not wanting horns at all, just some back strap et al.  I drug my carcass up the tree.  Didn't fall out.  Good form.

About an hour before dark, I see a guy come by out a bit, maybe 150 yrds.  He glassed me up, I waved, he moved off to the south.

Right at dark, here come the deer.  6 does came out between where this guy went and I.  They came out at 100 yrds and started to feed toward me.  Perfect!  I figured the other guy would get out and push them to me if I waited and that is exactly.  The deer moved smoothly to me, then most broke at 55 yrds, but one came directly my way as this othe guy started walking by.  It was getting pretty dark, but I still had my pins, and the last doe stopped at 32.5 yrds exactly (I ranged carefully).  Just as I was drawing, certain of nice plump deer steaks, I hear an arrow hit the ground between myself and the deer.  This joker shot an arrow from > 100 yrds at a deer that was butt toward him right at dark!

He even came and started casting around for the arrow until I threw my pack out of the tree, then he split just like the deer he had spooked from me.  Idiot.

No deer in Wa this year!

Well, from what I hear, > 100 yards is completely within reasonable bow range...

...seriously though, it is not getting any easier to avoid idiots like that one.  Sorry to hear you had to be a victim. The worst part to me, is from your story he had to have known you were there... did he forget...

Sounds like a complete tool, be glad he's not your neighbor!

Just curious, but do you expect anything less when bowhunting public land? Personally, every hunt on public land, I plan on the unexpected hunter to alter my plans. Usually going further away from roads prevents these happenings.

One of the many trying to attempt to joint the ranks of the few that are capable. Possibly one of the guys on this site that rants about such shots on his keyboard on this forum but slings them all over when he feels no one is watching, funny stuff. No blood no foul.

Most likely some lazy wetside hunter pissed off because you were hunting his "spot" sitting in "his" homemade stand that rtspring had not found yet to tear down... :chuckle:

Buckmark nailed it again! By the way......had an awesome time the other day. Nice to sit back with my rifle, a cold one, and the heater blasting. Thank goodness your diesel gets good gas mileage. We ran out of beer before we ran out of gas. Good times.

That's to bad that guy was a moron, but they are everywhere.  Last evening of the late muzzleoader season here in unit 130 and I leave my truck and start heading into the private land I have permission to hunt. I get 100 yards from the road and some dude pulls up gets out of his truck and starts yelling to me asking if I was the land owner and asking if he could hunt there. The deer I saw before this idiot showed up took off. I said NO im not the owner and NO he couldn't hunt here and to get the hell out of here. I was so pissed. And i am still wondering how this guy thought it was a good idea to yell at someone hunting and get permission that way.
WDWF needs to get a clue before it's to late!!!

Sure was, by the way you still owe me for fuel and beer,  but hey you will catch it next time (3rd time in a row),  sorry you lost your wallet in that tragic scuba accident spear fishing sealions.. I should have your flashlite mounted up to your bow by this weekend and we can hit the winter range...
