Idaho was good to me once again
« on: December 11, 2011, 08:34:56 PM »
Got back on the nov 29th. weather was bad when we got there it was 25 and 10'' of snow on the ground two days later it warmed up in the 40s and blew30, but we were there for two weeks so we just kept at it. Hard work paid off killed both these buck out of the same patch of timer about 100 yards apart two days apart. I killed the brute, named (High tower) after hearing him running does in a patch of thick timber 200 yards bellow me for a day in a half. I could see his scrapes in the snow all around the timber patch and the wind was right so I just decided to wait him out. I could see does come and go and knew there was at least ten of them in the bowl I was in. On the second morning on him three does came running out and beded on the ridge bellow me I thought any time and he was going to come out. Then an hour later two more does came out and nothin, I looked back and the three to see if anything had changed, nothing. I pan back and now theres three deer together no need to judge I grabed my rifle and he starts to chase one of the does I grunt, he doesnt even flintch and the spot they were at I had to shoot free hand 342yards. I hit him back on the first he never even breaks stride, hit him mid body on the second nothin, so I settle in and hit him square in the shoulder, finally he goes down, we dont gut them in the field in fear of the wolves moveing in so I got him out whole and gutted him back by camp. then I go back two days later see a fresh scrape hit the horns and a nice 138'' comes running only wanted one taxi bill this year so I dropped him in his scrape. High tower scores 178'' and nets 167" My best to date. He is the second buck in two years we have taken on this ridge that goes over 170".

This was the worst year for deer numbers, that I have observed in four years. They are still recovering from a bad blue tounge out break a few years back

Nice! Sounds like you are working your way into an area where not many people go and have them figured out.

Now put away the rifle and tag one with a bow next year!!!

Great job and nice write up, thanks.
