Four dead in JBLM copter crash
« on: December 13, 2011, 05:34:35 AM »

JOINT BASE LEWIS MCCHORD, Wash - Four Army aviators were killed in a crash involving two Army helicopters at Joint Base Lewis-McChord Monday night.

The crash occurred sometime after 8 p.m. inside the southwest training area in Thurston County.

The accident involved two OH-58 Kiowa observation helicopters, JBLM said.

The Combat Readiness Center at Fort Rucker, Ala., will lead the investigation into the accident, JBLM said.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and loved ones of the Soldiers involved in this tragic accident,” said Major General Lloyd Miles, acting senior Army commander at JBLM and deputy commanding general of I Corps. “We will conduct a thorough investigation into this incident, and we will do everything in our power to support the families of the brave Soldiers who died this evening.”

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families

This is tragic.  It sucks when this happens.  Unfortunately its part of "the business" but that doesn't make it any easier.  My hearts go out to their friends and families.  May my brothers never be forgotten.

Guys, we are helping the safety team as we speak to investigate this. I will say that looking at the news report most army aviation personnel guess the same thing but it's just a guess. Everything else is hearsay. There were no witnesses giving an account. I do feel bad about that joke I made on another thread colockum. These guys weren't new to what they were doing, they were experienced and the two things I personally take away from this is that you never know what will happen, so live it righteously and to the fullest. That and we are all flesh and bone, no matter how good you are, you are just bad enough to get taken out.

I was just thinking the same thing. I regretted making the same joke. Some people don't understand but to help is cope we sort of have a very callous sense of humor. But then this happens and it reminds us that no matter how much experience you have all it takes is one mistake. Fly safe tonight brothers.
