Whats this lump from?
« on: December 13, 2011, 11:15:05 PM »
I have had this buck coming in for the last 4yrs now. This year I noticed a couple of lumps on his lower neck. They appear to be getting larger over time. Just curious what you guys think might cause this.

:dunno: Dont know what causes this, but you better take him out of his misery.  You may not get a chance at him after this year.  He's starting to show his age.

Sometimes cheat lups and sometime infections can cause them. My uncle shot a buck this year that had a lump on one of his back hams. When I cut it, well lets just say it was not very pretty.

I shot one like that a few years ago, minus the nice antlers!!! When I skinned him, it was just a big fatty sort of growth. No smells or anything like that so I cut it out and continued on. He ate great

I seen a cow a few years  ago that had what looked like 20 or more golf balls under its skin, it  looked healthy, except for all the bumps, and I asked a local warden he said it was some kind of parisite they get and the meat would still be good :yike:

My guess is that it is a fat tumor, I had a dog that got one and a friend of mine has a dog that had it removed

Some are grisle, some are lipomas or fat, some are abcesses, some are jsut plain NASTY (viruses or fungi)

I reemmber showing a photo of a deer with nastys on it to my virology professor at CWU.  He told me to shoot it on site and wrote out a big thing to give me in case WDFW showed up. LOL    I didn't see the deer again, nor did I have any intentions on going to jail as I figure his note would't keep me out of there. :chuckle:  He was dead serious though.

Could be a fat tumor,  seen this on dogs but the location, size and shape, makes me think goiter.  But I don't know if deer suffer from lack of iodine and get goiters. Only way to know is disection.  post some pics of inside when you get him.   :chuckle:

Caused by swallowing his chewing tabacco. Seen it more than once.
