I would have to agree, though I have tried a VM II side by side with the Galco King Tuk and Crossbreed, and both the King Tuk and Crossbreed were more comfortable. The King Tuk was the most comfortable of the three, but you could not go wrong with either.

Having said that, the VM II is an investment and really a work of art. The craftmanship is top notch. The only reason I have not bought one is the 26+ week waiting period to get it.
I am an instant gratification kinda guy, lol.

Anyone know of a 1911 holster with a longer drop?  I'm not really looking for a thigh rig just something that will hang lower off the belt so it doesn't interfere with my pack waist strap.

With my smaller pack that doesn't have a waistband I use a IWB I got from Wilson Combat.  It works great like that but with a waistband pack it's a no go.

I like that one in the picture from KillBilly but it might be a little "in your face" on some of the tree hugger populated trails around here.  I like full concealment but it doesn't really seem possible with a pack on.

For me the most comfortable way to carry a 1911 is in a horizontal shoulder rig.

Mine doesn't interfere with shoulder straps or waist strap on a day pack or my binos. When hiking, I don't things hanging off my hips or even a thy rig.

I like a Serpa for open carry on the belt with the government model. For concealed with an ultra compact it would be a Mernickle PS6.

Nice rig for the price.  I used half a bottle of baseball glove conditioner on mine, made a world of difference.  I like this rig because it works well with a back pack on.  You can adjust the holster to ride closer to the center of your chest if you want, or keep it tucked under your arm.  I also bought one of their double mag pouches.  I recommend these items if you want to save a few bucks.  El Paso also makes one that looks to be much higher quality, but for the money, I like this one.
