Got this in an email, some of you guys may have already seen it.  All I can say is OUCH!

WOW.......just how tough are these animals?

2011  South Dakota bull elk taken during the current rifle season. The additional  pictures show evidence of this bull previously being in a fight with another  bull elk.  The other elk broke his antler off in this elk’s head.   The taxidermist is guessing that the broken antler had been imbedded at  least one, if not two, years.  The “extra” antler was found to be  piercing the skull just behind the left eye of this elk but the surface had  healed to the point of not being noticeable.

I killed a bull elk in 2001 and he was blind on the left eye..with the same injury.  He had a huge hole in his eye socket and the injury created and infection and infected his eye socket and ear.  I also found a dime size hole between his horns in  skull plate.   I can't imagine how much that hurt.
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!

That poor bugger must have had one hell of a headache for a long time!

Have you ever fought someone and hit them with everything you had knowing it hurt em bad but they still took it.  After that you kinda ask, what now?  I ain't got no more than what he just took....  I'm guessin that is how the bull missing an antler felt.  :chuckle:

Cool Pics
