home made arrow saw
« on: December 18, 2011, 05:23:14 PM »
well I made this tonight. Only cost me $13 for a few parts I didn't have laying around. I used an old sewing machine motor and used 2 clamps to attach it. Not the prettiest but it works great.

Very cool!  What RPM does that sewing machine motor run at?  Might have to think about looking for one.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

not sure. Doesn't say anything on the motor. I put it in a vice and turned it on and cut a few broken shaft and it made perfect cuts.

Sewing machine motors do the trick - that is a nice set up, huntergreg.  Your saw may not be "pretty," but it isn't "ugly" either - and the price was right.

I put together a DIY saw that has been working like a charm - cost me about $38 in materials (it helped to find some of the stuff on sale).  I got the idea to use the "modified" clamp from another archery site.  Here's my recipe using a rotary tool:

"4-Speed Rotary Tool" (Harbor Freight) $18
A modified "24" Clamp" (http://www.harborfreight.com/24-inch-clamp-and-cut-edge-guide-66126.html) $10
Aluminum Measuring Stick $2
Rotary cutting disc - diamond (came in a set of 5) $5
U-bolts to hold Rotary Tool $2
A platform made from wood and screws I had laying around

The gray "tube" shown in the one photo is a vacuum attachment to control carbon dust - keeps things clean and safe.
