Thanks for the reply on this, that is what I did with my last bow I was went to A pro shop SVA that had the top 3 bows set up and shot them all. Along with 2 friends that are both very avid hunters and shooter and we didn't say a word to each other in tell the day was done
And 2 of us, that had each only owned 5 or 6 Mathews over the last 15 years  the years walked out of there with the Alfa max, and at that time i didn't care for the bow tec, and the Mathews was a very close 2nd and i will do the same this time but the more info i can get and (HONEST) options is good to know, if there is a problem or a consistent dislike or problem some are having and there is 2 brands that are close for me, I will defiantly let that be the determining factor. Thanks agian Brian

buy the one YOU like! so many guys fall for the best advertized bow or the buddy/bow shop guy that says you HAVE to buy a (fill in the blank) bow or nothing at all. Shoot a bunch of bows until you find the one you like. That being said, I really like the Z7.

I am buying a new bow this year as well.  I have shot Mathews for many years and love their bows.  Has anyone shot the new Helium???    I will be selling my Mathews DXT 30" draw 60 lbs with everything.  It shoots 270 ft/sec with my hunting arrow and I am shooting 125 gr 29.5" arrows.

I will be looking at the Helium...hope it shoots well.  Anyone with info let me know.

I agree entirely with the shoot them all discussion.  Try hard not to be too biases on way or another, and if you have the chance to shoot in more than one shop, all the better.  Or get to a big show and shoot everything there.  I bought a bow for my brother a few years back, expected to buy the Matthews, but ended up getting a Rytera (Martin).  Loved it.  I've got one now because I liked his as well.  And keep in mind, if you get one and it does break, they all have good warranties, and everybody makes the rare lemon.

While you are out there shooting, make sure to try out the Elite bows also... I have shot Bowtech, Hoyt (even own 1), Diamonds, Mathews, Elite and Maitland.  In my humble opinion, the Maitland is hands down the smoothest and nicest compound I have shot.  That being said, the Elite line has some extremely nice shooters also, the Tour, Pure and Hunter are all great bows.

In 2009 I shot everything under the sun. It took me 4 months to decide. I ended up with tje Hoyt Alpha Max 32. Like others said it spoke to me. It stood out. I can't explain it.

This year if I was buying a new bow I would probate ly buy the Bowtech Invasion. That is a sweat bow. But just because I liked it doesn't mean you would.

A question to tag onto this thread. To have the most forgiving bow, wouldn't a guy look for a bow with a long brace height of 7.oo'' or better and a longer axle to axle length? Just asking.

Long ATA (axle to axle) and Long Brace Height usually make a bow more forgiving.

So these are things to consider when looking for that next new bow then?  Might come into play when you are standing in a thicket on the side of a steep slope trying to pick a spot on that bull coming in fast?

Not necessarily.  Forgiveness is the ability for your arrow to hit the spot you are holding even if the follow through, grip torque, release, etc isn't perfect.   The longer higher brace height bows tend to be heavier and more cumbersome to pack around as well.

When you say coming in fast are you meaning in case you mis-judge the distance?  If that is the case forgiveness wont help there, that is strictly based on the speed of the bow.

everyone should shoot a forgiving bow for hunting because it is a rarity to be able to stand up rite perfect on even ground, and shoot on the level not adding in the moving animals your excitement you wanting to make the shot, and if everything does turn out PERFECT you are still in great shape. and speed doesn't kill your shot placement is what kills.

There is a lot of great info in here so I don't need to add much. Best thing is to not look at a name but what fits you right. I have owned almost every bow brand out there. I still own 9 different brands of bows right now. My pse bows are always my hunting bows because they fit me the best. If another bow preformed for me as well as they have, I would shoot it. Get what feels best to you and what you shoot the best and you will be more happy then having a name of a bow
