Went scouting last weekend and didn't see a single elk. Lots of deer and a yote, but no elk.

Spent 3 days in there during late archery, 2 days biking in behind a gate where I have ALWAYS found elk and 1 day in a new area. Saw 5 deer (3 before daylight) and no elk. Alot of guys I talked to had similar stories. Don't think its going to be the slam dunk hunt that some may think, good luck. :twocents:

If you know where to go in the Winston, it is a slam dunk.  Maybe a 300 yd. shot across a clearcut.  Especially for a cow.  Have never been in there and not seen 10 - 15 head.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Brother took a buddy in there for his late archery tag.  They saw a chit load of elk, but none close enough for a shot.  Rifle would have been easy as hell, 100-150 yards.

Well I have been hunting the winston since 2006 archery and rifle. I can tell you the elk were not in the usual spots this year. I think its going to be a grind for most people to find the elk. And that includes me, we have 3 tags to fill. Were staying at kid valley for the first week and day trips after that I dont think its going to be easy?

Did not hunt the winston this year, but my brother and grandpa drew rifle cow tags for margaret.  We only killed one cow now 3 years ago we would have filled 2 tags easy but there are alot of tags and not as many elk.  Dont know if it helps in the winston but in the margaret we were finding most of the elk in thinned out timber.
