Which boots?

Looking at the Alaska GTX (Hanwag) and the Hard Scrabbles (Kenetrek). Any experience with either?

I have the hanwags, and the kenetreks, but the mountain version, not the hardscrabble.  Been very happy with both, the Hanwags are a stiffer boot and are great in the steep, rocky stuff.  I've put a lot of miles in some nasty ground with the hanwags and they are great.  The Kenetrek are very comfortable.  They are fantastic for covering a lot of miles per day.  Been very happy with both boots, can't go wrong either way.

I have the kenntrek packs and arnt overwhelmed with them , the one your looking at are made in italy i think and should be a much better boot.

My next boots will be Kennetreks.  I have 4 buddies that have them and my sister just bought a pair.  Everyone raves about them.

One other boot to consider is the Lows GTX Hunters. I put 50 miles on them in 5 days of elk hunting and never had a blister. However they felt good for me. kenetreks felt good for someone else. Boots are very personal. When you hear a review you are just hearing about Tue quality and the comfort it is capable. I HIGHLY recommend that before purchasing a boot you try them on. Because yes the Lowas fit me perfect and were very comfortable. But for you they might not fit your foot right and they would be miserable. Each boot brand is cut slightly different.

Bought the hardscrabble about a year ago.Ill never go back to a cheap boot.No blisters,wet socks or sore feet.Not chap but worth the price.

I just bought a pair of Hardscrabble boots at the SCI show in Vegas.. The Kenetrek guys were there.. I was very amazed at how comfortable they were right out of the box. Just breaking them in now.. so I can not report how they are after a hard day on the hill.. but so far I can definitely see the difference in quality vs all the other brands I have had (Danner, Cabelas, Rocky, Irish Setters, etc) and how they feel even when brand new are amazing.

For me it was the same decision.. Lathrop & Sons (Hanwag) or Kenetrek.. really can't go wrong either way... Good luck.

i have and like the kenetreks, both in hardscrabbles and mt extremes but would like to try on a pair of lathrop and sons, who sells them retail!?

Hunted with the Hardscrabble boots the last two seasons.  Used them on both sides of state.  Everything from monsoon rain, to snow, to fall heat.  Flat trails to rim rock.  Very impressed with the comfort and performance.  They've held up much better than other brands I had previously owned.

just ordered a pair of lathrop and sons hanwag Alaska gtx. they are out until April but i can let ya know when i get them.  Lathrop and sons are a shoe shop and are a distributor for Hanwag. Lathrop and sons don't make boots just customize to fit your feet better. the gold level class is like double the boot cost though so be ready if ya wanna go that rout. bronze class is fine for me. i have relatively normal feet.

I've been wearing my Kenetrek Mountain Extremes for 2 years now, and I love them. Very comfortable, great support, and well made. I will never go back to cheap boots. I agree with clockumelk, try them on and decide for yourself. Both are quality boots.

I bought a pair of Hardscrabbles just after Christmas. No serious miles yet, but I love them. I will be spending 3 weeks deep in Wyoming elk country this year so that will be the test of tests! I too have the Mt Extremes and have been very happy with them. I just wish it hadn't taken me so long to decide to upgrade!
My buddy that will be with me in WY wears the Alaska GTX and swears by them.

Cabellas guide series! Will last you 10yrs and keep goin. ive tried kenetreks, danners,rockys. these are good. A little heavy but worth it!
