I have bear in 204 quite a bit and could give you some info on where to go pm me and I will get the info to you!  We have seen many bears there and some good ones too, it is also full of kitties.  We saw 1 griz there about 8 yrs ago.

Lost Lake area outside Chesaw has been bear active this year, again look for lowland berries.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Good luck in Sept. The berries will be toward the very end, up high you will find more than down low in terms of berries. That being said choke cherries are usually near water, you find them on the edges of old logging roads. There is some good walking behind the lake. There is a boyscout camp, the road that runs behind there I have seen several bears on in the past couple year. Besides berries, the key is early morning and late evening, like the last half hour of each. Here is a pic of choke cherries.

PS. Your name is the same as the gamewarden in the area.  (Kram)

hey teacherMan thanks for the info i love that area up there make it to bonaparte at least once ayear wether im hunting or fishin or just relaxing.can not decide if i want to muzzle hunt out of bonaparte for deer or maybe rifle down around the snake {ive never done that before}.last year i rifled for deer in your area and no matter how far i got off the road there was other hunters very discouraging.you live in a beautiful place.next summer i promised my kids we would vacayion up there and go to stonerose in republic to bust some rocks.back to bear i am famillar with the boyscout camp but i didnt know you could drive overthere unless your talking about the o5o rd. over strawberry or maybe the 100rd across the lake.anyways thanks for the pic.i will sure buy a bear tag for when im over there in sept. kram is just my name spelled backward and 2 years ago the gamewarden checked my fishing lic. while my kids and i were fishin right of the road at beaver lake.we were knocking them dead w/ bait in late sept right from shore.kram
