My Montana whitetail with BearPAw
« on: December 27, 2011, 10:41:32 AM »
Well early this fall my Husband Matt informed me that I would be going on a guided mid November deer hunt in central Montana with Bearpaw outfitters.
It was one of the most fun hunts I have ever been on and I have to give a HUGE thanks to Dale AKA (Bearpaw) and also to my guide on the hunt Anthony Neidlinger.
We saw a ton of bucks every day, Matt and Nik were along to film the hunt and all three of us were shocked at the amount of deer we saw.
I had taken a nice mule deer in OR early this year so I was really hoping for a good whitetail, but when we saw a super tall 3x4 I was ready to put my tag on this awesome mule deer!
Anthony talked me out of it though and im glad he did because I ended up taking this beautiful 6x7 whitetail!

Is that Matt's "super-.338-ultra-2mile shot-magnum-lapua-mega-devastator" toy he was showing off at Garry's during the youth hunt?

Wait, wait wait! Stop the presses! This can't be true! I know because I read on every hunting site online that the wolves have been devastating deer and elk populations in Idaho and Montana and Wyoming.

Stop spreading your propaganda! You'll destroy all the fear and hate that's being stirred up (in the name of money and influence) by the anti-wolf people!

FYI - Sitka-Blacktail please get a clue, the reason we still have deer on that ranch is because wolves haven't moved into that part of Montana, and if they do the ranchers will take care of them, so chew on that, there are still some places where your ilk can't destroy good game management.  :chuckle:

congrats on a great buck Shannon.....

Anthony said he had a great time hunting with you and your crew, he also said that you made one heck of a shot.

I try to tell people they will see 10 to 30 bucks a day at the ranch and they look at me funny. Our deer numbers were actually down this year due to the previous hard winter, but we still saw 10 to 20 bucks most days this season. We have lots of good whitetails but Anthony made the right call on the mulie, most of our mulies that survived last winter need a couple years to grow up, if you come back in a year or two the muley you passed will be a good shooter then.

I can't wait to see the show, please let me know once you and Matt know when it will be scheduled....

A little sensitive aren't we?  Just pointing out the difference between fantasy and reality that some of my hunting brethren don't understand.  You're being used.

Groups like SFW and their associates and ilk are using fear to gain influence and money.  Fact of the matter, wolves properly managed will make little difference in hunting opportunities. And I can't wait for the opportunity to hunt legally for a wolf here in Washington.

I hear all kinds of anecdotal tripe about how wolves have ruined hunting in Idaho and Montana, but it's curious how many stories you also hear like the OP on this thread.  And my friends from these two states also keep telling me how good their hunting has been. My uncle's group was 4 for 4 on elk this year near Helena.  A group of Washington friends hunt deer in the Idaho panhandle and are usually close to 100% on Whitetails for 8 or more of them.  Friends in the Clearwater area were 2 for 4 on 6x6 bulls and missed a third.  Sister in Law's son got his first bull near Wallace this year, another 6x6. Sounds alright to me!

Sorry if I don't toe the "Party Line" as far as wolves.

And congrats to archrywattitude on a successful hunt! I wish you many more to come!

You need to take a drive through the Lolo national forrest and see what you see and talk to the people who live there the reason for not seeing anything. There are lots of deer and elk in Montana and Idaho just not as many as there were.
