Well, you guys inspired me to start looking for sheds lately. The problem is that I am the worst shed hunter on the face of this earth. I have never found a horn in my whole life. Most of my life has been spent putting miles on my boots in the mountains so whats the deal. Nevertheless, I will remain diligent on my quest to find a shed. I think it might be my new obsession. Any bets on how long it will take. Josh

Good luck Stew.  If you have never found a shed, then you may have the title of "worst shed hunter" (for now).  I formerly held that title.  I find one now and then, but I am a terrible shed hunter... :chuckle:

I was never looking for sheds when I found them. So maybe the trick is to just go "birdwatching" or something and every once and awhile sit down and look around at the ground maybe you will se one  :dunno:

in the last 2 years i've found one and that was by accident.  I just happened to stop and spot what I thought was movement (turned out nothing) and I looked down for some reason and right there not a couple of inches from my boot was a little 2 point (3 counting the 1.5 in. eye guard) muley shed. :yike:  My first shed  :IBCOOL:  that was last year, nothing this year but, i'm gonna hit it pretty good this coming spring and hopefully add to my one little pile. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I have never found one as well, I just walk on them so my kids will pick them up behind me. That happen a couple years ago hunting with my daughter, she picked it up and said dad see what you walked on!

Montana was the only place I ever did anygood shed hunting, and we weren't really shed hunting.  We were deer hunting and we kept tripping over them.  My buddy found something like 8 or 10.  I still only found 2.  For me, that's pretty awesome :chuckle:
For the record, my disability is apparently not heredetary.  PathfinderJR has found several sheds (deer and elk), including a 6 point elk shed that I literally almost tripped over (he was 7 years old at the time). To get even with him, I made him pack the thing all the way back to camp..

Haven't really been shed hunting in a long time..... And I didn't find many..... Found more out hunting just by chance..... Dad hasn't ever found one..... I can see why when he steps over a big 5 point elk shed and I just pick it up....  :IBCOOL:  Another time while out grouse hunting in late December he points out an elk bed... We check it out and he walks off and I grab the matching pair of spikes that he was almost standing on.....   :chuckle:

Don't let this year count toward your bad luck.....unless of course we get snow.  Bucks are still up very high compared to theier normal winter range.  This is a good thing for the herds but horible for shed hunters.  Good luck though and don't stop looknig.  I also find very few....my hiking / hunting partner can be walking with me and he will see them as I walk right by them  :dunno: .  Maybe this is why he never kills anything, because he is looking at the ground all the time.

Just started hitting it hard last year... found 13 deer and one moose paddle my first year. i put serious miles in and felt like i wasnt getting much of a pay out. rough ratio was every 5-6 times out for one horn. others were posting totals of finding 15 in a weekend. it'll will happen for you too, just gotta put the miles in

He'll have it, only question is when.  I was over there the other night visiting and we tlked about it, but didn't set a date.  The weather is so iffy that time of year... :dunno:  A few years ago they actually got flooded off the mountain.. :(

Remeber it only takes one good shed hunting trip to go from the "worst shed hunter" to the best... Once you get the "EYE" you will find more and more...

I have never been a great shed hunter..the biggest change when in the hills is to keep my eyes to the ground...so use to that hunting mode..I barely look at the ground always looking for game and still find myself doing that when shed hunting. Also go to areas where game winter...I shed hunt places I dont even hunt
