Savage 99 octagon barrel price?
« on: December 31, 2011, 03:54:17 PM »
I was at my local pawn shop on a whim and saw a savage 1899 for 600 bucks. It had the octagon barrel and brass guts and brass counter. It had the original everything. The gun was definitely not a safe queen as the stock was pretty beat up but everything worked pretty well. Is this a good deal or do I need to learn the art of negotiating? What should I spend on this gun? I'm kicking myself for not taking pictures. I'm pretty sure if this is a deal and it's still there when tax return comes I will own it. Oh, its a 30-30.

To play in the 99 field you need to know what you are doing.  If the gun is correct Not D&T'd, worn but original finnish, correct sights, original butt plate and on and on. Condition is everything.

It sounds more like you were looking at an 1899 B not a 99.

Go to the Savage Collectors thread on 24hourcampfire.com and ask your question.  Try and get pictures of it, they will ask you alot of questions it is the only way you can put a value on it.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

Thanks, it still seems like a deal but I'll shy away and get one of his 94's instead. If anyone is interested it's the sarge's on the road between gravelly lake and bridgeport.
