Charles Daly 12 Gauge Simi-Auto Problem
« on: January 02, 2012, 10:01:10 PM »
I got this gun about a year and a half ago and it has given me lots of problems! Every time I go to shoot it with 3 inch or 2 3/4 low and high brass the gun always fails to function correctly. It jams or most the time it will not eject and does not load in a new shell. My father has the same gun besides it is 20 gauge and he never has any problems what so ever that's why I got it in the first place. As I came to find out the gun had been redesigned later on which added the o-ring into the gun so it would fix other problems I am assuming but I am not sure if that is making it malfunction. I need fast support so I can get it working correctly soon as possible. The specs of it are (Charles Daly Semi-Auto Field Hunter VR-MC 12 gauge shotgun/ Model #CDGK 1181 with a 28" barrel). If you have any suggestions or know how to fix it I would greatly appreciate it.

                             Thanks, Neil

is this an extractor problem or is the spent shell "glueing" itself in the barrel?

I think I have the same gun and it won't cycle the lower powered loads at all. It will cycle the AA trap loads and any magnum loads flawlessly. I don't know if it's normal or if there's something wrong with it. I only use it for turkey hunting anymore anyway and I'm using the hotrod nitromag loads so I have no issue.

Is it good and clean? As in have you taken it apart and cleaned it thoroughly?

I haven't figured out if its an extractor problem or a barrel/breech problem

If its an extractor then perhaps a spring is weak, the dog is broke off, pin missing

is its the barrel then your going to need to check spacing, or see if there is a micro crack that when shot the barrel will expand then shrink back tightly around the spent shell

I know a guy intown that won one a few years back at DU. He has said it is always having problems. Other then a good cleaning i would take it to a gun smith and see if they can get it working right. Then I would sell it to go towards a new shoty

Is the gas system intact and clear? Do shells stick in the chamber or what exactly is the malfunction?
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.
