Good job Mike, I need to get down that way and fish with you sometime. I traded in my aluminum for a 21" Seaswirl Striper. Whats it like to anchor up a heavy fiber glass boat down there? Is it doable?

Current is slow right now. You'd have no trouble. I seen a striper down there fishing on saturday.

No where you can't run down there, heck some much larger craft running around...  My 23 foot Wooldridge Super Sport (Deep Vee) is heavy and there isn't a place I won't anchor.  I have the 40lb anchor and to be truthful it is probably too heavy.  The 32lb would be perfect, everywhere except below the dam- and above Washougal, where a heavy is needed due to current flow.  I use my whole scope of line each and every time - 250ft main and 50ft tag.  Too many varibles not too...  Besides it keeps you aware of how far ahead to drop if your consistent.  There are a couple shallow areas on the Oregon side slightly below Drano, so stay away from that area, most is deep water.   I would recommend staying away from Wind River launch, unless you go in daylight and follow someone that knows the channel and then mark it on GPS.  It can be a bit of a double zig zag to get out on the main river.  Jets no problem but I don't risk my lower end now days...  Nice thing about the big boats is you can when it is a bit nasty (most days) preventing all but clinically insane in the little boats from running safely, of course there will be that "one guide" with the open boat running clients- all zippered up taking on water...  At Drano after exiting under bridge, swing straight out into channel as there are some slightly hidden rocks along the Washington side that folks seem oblivious too.  I idled through with Jet and there were three or four - two foot under the water mark last year.  Would have been ugly with Fiberglass boat or lower end...  I'll PM you next time were running..

I've got a 19' alumaweld stryker with a red top and a tower. We ended up a few miles above you before we found a good pod of fish.

Thanks Mike. We have some family coming out in late June or early July and I'd like to pick your brain about the best places to fish. I'd like them to catch a few keepers and maybe an oversized.

Looks like fun Cohoho, Very nice! I have a 16' aluminum boat with a older 28HP outboard. We used it out on Lake Erie when I was a kid, but not sure if it is enough of a boat combo to play out on the river. I have fished Ilwaco a few times and always had a blast fishing sturgeon, either Pacific Salmon charters, or Sea Breaze, they will put you on the fish!
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!
