What is this deer doing?
« on: January 05, 2012, 09:33:13 PM »
I had my new Primos 46 out watching over a pile of apples, about 20 pounds worth, and got almost 600 pictures in 3 days. In this set of 3 pictures I have no idea what this deer is doing. Anyone?

I've seen deer stomp on apples to make them easier to eat. If you look at the front shoulder in the first pic it looks relaxed, but on the second and third it looks like the doe is stomping.

wow! wow! wow!......I was always told growing up that the female sex does not fart.

Then I got married and realized that they certainly do, and usually it smells worse then the dog and myself combined.  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

That deer is being greedy smashing apples and scarfing them like a piggy at a trough and paying for the gluttony with some major gas and/or squirts  :dunno: :dunno:

just guessing since it looks like a greedy ass gassed up horse  :chuckle: :chuckle:

I believe she was bedded down just outside the sensor area. She stood up or walked into the area and is stretching. :twocents:

That's possible. In fact if you look closely in this picture, (and look at the time) you can see a deer bedded down in the background. and now that I got to looking closer, I can see the same deer bedded in the other six pictures I posted. So this deer very well may have been bedded down too.

The first three pics make the doe look like her back legs are to long or maybe its that her front legs are to short.  :dunno:

Hey Bobcat do you have any pix of the deer in the first pic from straight on where you can see the top of its head?  It's a young deer no doubt, all legs, no body, and very short snout.  In the first pic it looks like a young toehead.  Only reason I say is a buddy had a pet blacktail buck, and its first year just had two white spots up top, but if you rubbed them you could feel the lumps.  It's running free now on an island in the Columbia.  Cool pix, sounds like a lot of action.
When you see the third, thin the herd.
Right now I'm somewhere picking up sheds.

One of the triplet deer in my yard does that weird hunching-up thing quite often too.  I can't really figure out why she does it; I've seen her do it when she was cold and shivering and then she would hunch-up like that for several minutes......
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

I'll have to look. There are 565 pictures to look through. But I wouldn't be surprised if that deer is a young buck. This is a spot where I've had cameras since October 1st, and a doe out there is very rare for some reason. With all the pictures I got I have identified at least 7 different bucks, and then I killed a buck out there that wasn't even one I had a picture of.

I wish I had a quarter of the action your having, I need to go check mine today and possible move it.  Like H20 my spot is marked to log, and hope it hasnt started yet.  Keep em coming.

If you look, real close, you may see that the deer is streching.  I've seen other BT, as sell as some WT do the same thing.

Cows will stretch like that.
But usually they do the opposite - they duck their backs down, not up.  Sometimes if they hunch their back it's a sign of internal pain, such as a wire in the stomach.

I would guess the deer is looking at a bug or mouse that you cannot see.
