Backpack with gunpouch/holder

Not inexpensive, but check out eberlestock packs.   I carry the x2 as a day pack and figure it can handle the first load out.  Then will swap to an old external frame for the big stuff.

The new badlands 2200 come with a rifle holder that clips at the bottom and adjusts for the lenght of your rifle.  The rifle gets wrapped inside the "batwings" for protection.  Is a pretty nice setup and works well for me.

Is there a particular name for these types of packs?
I am looking for one that is relatively cheap, it doesnt have to hold quite so much volume of space as the cabelas pack but I would like it to have a gun-holder.

If there isn't one available... what alternatives are there? I take any old backpack and zip up the rifle vertically in the pack... or something like that but that seems cheesy and not really good protection for the rifle.

I saw one at Wholesale Outfitters in Burlington. But I dont like the one you linked to because the gun butt hangs below the bottom of the pack. I would get one where the pouch for the butt ends even with the pack bottom. I got one day pack size with the gun pouch on both sides at Costco last year. Look around. Think I paid $30.00 or less.

I have a Badlands 2200 and Ebelestock Dragonfly that both have a gun holder... Both are great packs.... They hold a bunch of gear and meat when packing out...

I have the dragonfly as well it works great. Eberlestock does make a day size pack with a gun pouch in it. I saw it at sportsmans wherehouse in Puyallup for $180 I think

I second the Bullpac, I love mine with the rifle holder on the side.  It'll carry more than you can. Has lashing hooks all around it for tying on meat bags.

Badlands are great packs and will hold up to almost anything you can carry. I have the Super Day pack but other guys mentioned the 2200 and 2800 also. The gun holders work great. The Super Day was $179 at Cabela's but it was just on Camofire for $109. Won't find a deal like that very often. I'm not sure of the pricing of the others but you can check those out easily. Mine didn't come with a water bladder although I bought one for it later. I ditched the bladder for bottled water as it was just easier for me.

I finally got the Cabela's Extreme Alaskan Outfitter Pack and Frame 

I actually found it on sale a few months back for a good cut of the price, plus a free shipping deal ( the buy a clothing bit, so I bought a hat  )

It will actually suit me well since it can convert and pack out meat as-well. My friend is a long time hiker/mountain climber but has never hunted. He moved away for college, but hopefully he can get up here for a weekend or more for a hunt/vacation.

Ideally I was thinking if I was hunting alone, I would be at least in territory familiar to me, or close by home and not make a 'long' trip out of it. (especially with gas) But with a hunt buddy I have more reason to head east at least to Wenatchee and try some mountainous areas. (I like watching mountainous area hunts in Alaska, hope to get up there eventuallyl too  )
