One day hunt
« on: January 09, 2012, 10:47:17 AM »
I have spent ALOT of time trying to find ducks this yr. I am new to the forum, not to hunting big game, or other birds. I have very little experience with where to go, besides some of the public land that I hunt, and seem to be more frustrated with non ethical sky-blasting hunters, and doing all this work for what seems to be nothing to show. I go, EVERY Sunday, Wednesday, because those are my only days off. When I go to a spot that I know, nothing. I have not shot a limit at all this yr on any one day. I am about to give up on this duck hunting thing, but I cant. Im HOOKED. :dunno: I have driven all over skagit and snohomish counties, finding spots, but it seems that when I do, the birds that were there, are gone. Sorry for venting, just looking for some encouragement I guess. :sry: I know there are birds, I see them on the forums.  :dunno: Just want one day this yr to be able to shoot something.  :bash:

Welcome to the forum   If you check out the open seat thread on the waterfowl forum, you can probably find a open seat and or a new hunting buddy.  With having Wendesdays off you should be able to do some damage on a day that most are working :twocents:  Not many weeks left in the season, I hope your bad luck turns around and you are able to end the season with a bang

Thanks Seth30, I will be checking the open seat thread. I was thinking that I could do well on a Wednesday as well, but so far, nothing. I will keep trying tho!

Experienced the same things. My biggest issue was with the sky busters. I put together a great little boat with a jet that would take me to places that no one could get into wet and east side. This was my saving grace for quality hunts. I still had a lot of slow days but the frustration of other people blowing the hunt almost went away. You got to scout and be willing to put in the extra effort and it will pay off. I spent numerous summer weekends scouting places when it was warm; bring your fishing pole. And most of all don't tell the world about your great place or you will be searching again. If it easy to get to....everyone will be there.
Don't spend your last day on earth saying "I wish I would have"

Keep looking because the birds are out there.  You might have to get out and check for sign in some of the spots as well.  Depending on the time of day, birds come and go.  Maybe afternoon hunts may be in order vs. Mornings.  I have had some great afternoon shoots.

I been hunting waterfowl in WA for 15yrs. 99% on public land. I've never shot a 7 bird limit in WA. Got 6 a few times, but on average I only get 10-15 birds a year. While I may not hunt as hard as some I always have a good time.
I enjoy being out and when feasible, bring my kids so they can enjoy the great outdoors.
There are many factors. Last week I got 6 ducks & a goose. Yesterday zero. Still enjoyed myself.  :twocents:

Dont get me wrong, I do enjoy the outdoors immensly. However, when you go 10+ times and get skunked, it can get a little frustrating.

I gotcha. I've been skunked 4 out of 7 times this year.
I can't wait til I get a seaworthy duck boat.
