I feel like flash would scare some animals, is this not the case? I know that flash shows color at night though. I have two cameras with infrared. A bushnell trophy cam and a tasco. Both 5 mp. Wanting to stock up on more and trying to figure out what route I want to go.

IR also helps from people noticing the flash at night if its near roads or houses. I really dont think the the flash bothers most deer. I will say the largest buck I was ever able to harvest hated the flash of trail cams..there was no IR cams then and he would come by in the summer and wait for another deer to trigger it and run in and leave and keep doing this non stop. I was able to watch at a distance..quite comical.  Also IR cams dont use as much battery per trigger at night due to the flash bulb uses considerably more energy to flash

Can't really speak to this since all of mine are flash. As far as the flash scaring critters, I've never had a problem with it. They never seem to be bothered by the flash...

I have 4 IR cameras.  I always had flash cameras before the IR's. They are 2 tascos and 2 trophy cams. I bought them because I liked the size and weight of them.
    I'm going back to flash cameras thuogh, because I think the pictures are alot better. The animals defiantly notice the flash, but I never had any problem with them not comming back for retakes.
   I think to get really good pictures with IR's the animals need to be pretty close. In the winter when trigger speed seems to slow down that is kinda tough unless you pack bait.
 Where I put my cameras it usually requires a flash in the middle of the day. 
    Last night I bought the DLC covert Reveal with color flash for $115.   I didn't find any reviews on the covert Reveal, so i'm not sure how it's going to work.         Has anyone used one?

I think the flash cameras take better pictures but it's nice having the IR for security and might not bug the animals as much. I have had my camera flash during the day if it's still in the shade. gives the location away pretty fast.

i had a flash cam and i would get a big blacktail pic every month or 2. he would get 1 pic and disappear.

You can't fool a buck with an IR set up. He will still know its there.  Some deer don't care what you use and some will walk around them. The IR  does help keep them hidden from people.

I wouldn't say one type is any better than the other. They're just different is all and each has its advantages and disadvantages. I just got my first IR cam about a month ago. Not sure how I like it yet. I know I do prefer the pictures from the white flash cameras because they're in color and at least the ones I have, seem to a have less blur from animals that are moving. The advantage with the IR cams that I see is that for one, they are easier on the batteries. Another thing is that they can take multiple shots much quicker than the regular flash cameras. My Primos 46 takes 5 pictures at night in about 3 seconds. My Moultrie D40's will do a 3 shot burst but it's spread out over about 30 seconds because it takes a while for the flash to recharge each time. Which isn't necessarily a disadvantage, it just depends on your setup. If just on a trail with no bait, less time between pictures would help. But with bait it really makes no difference.
