Author Topic: Bought a pair of Danner Elkhunters (Read 11474 times)

I purchased a pair of Danner elkhunter boots..they came with a heel/arch support u can put in boot. There is no boot insole inside so one would be standing on the plastic itself which I see not being comfortable. I am in the market for a boot insole and I know there is alot of them out there..wanting to see what are the best ones out there people have had experience using.

super feet....green or orange, whichever tickles your fancy. they have an awesome deep heel cup, good arch support, and they last a long time.

I've heard the lathrop and sons foot bed are good but i havent gotten my hands on them yet. they are wierd because they will give you zero support.

what i've really wanted to do was see if i could glue a set of lathrop and sons footbeds to the top of some green superfeet so that i would have the best shock absorbsion cushion technology combined with the best support and shock absorbsion through great fit.

Try them as they are first. You might be surprised at how confortable they are. Everyone is a little different but I have put alot of miles on my Elkhunters with the stock factory heel cup and loved every minute of it. The airbob sole on mine is soft enough to provide all the cushioning I need.

Those boots look awesome. Good choice I have heard good things about them. When my Fanned Frontiers die someday I will replace them with the elk hunters. As said before you can't go wrong with green superfeet. I have them in all my boots. Best $35 I ever spent.

The only place I've seen the elk hunters are in cabelas. that's were I ordered mine .I wore them just about everyday for a year between work and hunting and fishing. The arch supports that came wiy the boots are great if you have a high arch due the fact that danners are flat in the foot beds. I would recommend trying them for a couple days befor just writing them off. I could not notice them in my boots but I noticed when they were not in there.

I have major foot problems and green superfeet are the best insoles I have used, 2nd only to my fancy $350 pair I had custom made

You won't have room in the boots for your feet. Aside from that it'd probably be great.

The elk hunters are the Cabelas Danner model - 10" vs some of the 8". My only frustration with the Elk hunters is the lack of Ankle support. They have been good boots. I have hundreds of miles on them over the last 5 years or so. I will be trying Kennetrek with my next purchase

I had a pair of ELk hunters that I had for about 10 seasons and loved them!! Finely wore them out and got a new pair, same size exactly and they killed my feet and I had to take them back.. Went with ProngHorns this time..

I went on a hike last week in them, they were pretty dang comfy for being new

they had a sale on Cabelas 2 weeks ago..between the sale.. $20 rebate at cableas for spending $150 and a couple left over gift cards I was out the door at $155 from $309

had a pair for 12 years and finally the bobs started snapping off but the uppers still had some years in them.I have a narrow foot so they fit me well.Most of my hunting is sidehill and felt I had enough support (lace to toe) since I never rolled my ankle in all that time.Dont know if they are built with same quality now but the originals were awesome.

Hope those exposed seams on the front hold up for you in the brush. They sure didn't for me.

I have heard nothing but good about them is why they were purchased.. Most seam failures on all leather boots is the boot was wet alot and dried by a hot heat camp fire, wood stove etc not applying leather products such as obenhaufs etc

I never had much luck with Danners ...The best boot I ever owned was Browning stalkers ...9yrs of never getting my feet wet ...now I can not find them no where

I have some brownings..not a fan.. they are used strictly for stand hunting..the worst hiking boot I own. barely used and the insoles and foot beds are trashed

i feel danner has decreased in quality a lot the last 20 years. was a big fan of mountain lights for 15 years then they went south. i bought a pair and hunted the blues the first day and walked most of the day,no breakin. just bought pronghorns for $90 and they are worth less but the start was $160, wow. i felt ripped off at 90. thats is progress for us. how about lowas, am thinking about a pair. mike w

The Lowas are really nice. If you buy them rip the insoles out and get some green super feet. To be fair the Kenetrecks were the same way. I bought the Lowas because they fit my foot slightly better than the Kenetreks. I did some research online and bought a $400 pair of boots for $280.

The Lowas GTX Hunters have 200g insulation. Perfect for hunting until November. They are pretty comfy out of the box but are stiff so I had to put about 15 miles on them to get them "formed" good. I also use snoseal on them. Like I said they are stiff and offer A LOT OF SUPPORT. On flat ground or slopes you won't notice a different between these and Cheapo boots. But when your climbing mph.gains and especially side hills these things come into their own. And especially side billing with a load of meat these are worth their weight in gold. I put on 40 miles in 5 days in the mountains and while my body was beat my feet felt good to go. I can't say enough good things. I wore them in the summer in Alabama and they didn't get too hot. September in elk country I saw temps from 35 to 80 and my feet stayed comfortable. I also think green superfeet insoles and smart wool lite hikers socks also made the difference.

Nothing personal to anyone, but you can have your Danners. I would not pay $100 for a pair of Danners to hunt in. I have worn Lowas for about six years now, and only wish I had discovered them sooner.

Lowas aren't for everybody. If you just hike logging roads and don't hit the steep and deep, then they would be overkill. For me, bowhunting and chukar hunting they are worth their weight and more in gold. The ankle and foot support is phenomenal.

Ditto on the Superfeet and Sno Seal.

Superfeet is a brand of aftermarket insoles, which are coded by color based on the thickness and design of the insole.

I also highly recommend the Hanwag boots they sell from Germany. They aren't cheap (luckily I got mine for free) but they are the best boots I have ever owned. Lathrop & Sons have a great reputation in the hunting and military community and I have never been disappointed with their customer service.

I love mine but wish they would of made the tongue a inch or so longer. At the top when I lase up it seems to creep over the top. Also would have liked top lace holes instead of spead lace hooks. heavy brush tends to pull the laces off the top.

I do use superfeet in my hockey skates and some other boots but never have had the need to with the Elkhunters

love mine stock also,when I could hike a lot I always carried an extra pair of socks and changed after a half a day..Danner needs to bring back the old style hiker with the bob sole,and make an elk hnter with the cordura sides..thet would be the two best shoes to me

ill pass on any boot with cordura or any synthetic sides. Every boot I have owned with cordura has not lasted.. 3-4 year max..my biggest reason going back to a all leather boot. My last all leather boots last 9 seasons
