Idaho Spring Bears
« on: January 16, 2012, 03:16:07 PM »
Thinking about heading to Idaho in search of spring bear this year, would really like a cool color phase bear, are there parts of the state that would be better to look into going than others?  Or do they just have alot more color phase bears than we have here?

I just bought my license last week. Planning on going over and spending some time with my cousin this spring.  Never hunted bears over bait before:) Gonna be cool to stick a bear with a bow. He lives in Hayden. So I don't think we will be far from there.

I dont have any personal experience with Idaho. But I subscribe to bear hunting magazine. They say Idaho has 30-40% color phase and wa has 40-50%.

I plan on doing spring bear in Idaho this year. I have not had time the last two years but it will happen this year.  Hopefully will be doing it over bait but will have to find a spot along with the time to keep the bait fresh and to learn the details of doing it properly. I have hunted deer and elk pretty heavy the last year and have not seen much bear sign but in one place.

I don't hunt bears in ID, but I'd definitely agree we have a solid 50% color phase here (eastside). A few years back it was  over 80% color phase for me. Last year was a solid 60%. I can't imagine another state with a higher percentage.

I'll be going back again this year.  I'm hoping for an early or at least normal spring for once!

I may try some hunting down by McCall this may.  I just don't have the time to get a bait up and running so it will be spot and stalk.

You won't need a bait in the spring.....think green.

Eastern OR also has a very high % of color phase bears.  Lots of blond bears in the Imnaha country.
