Rufus Woods
« on: January 13, 2012, 09:43:38 PM »
The season is nearing an end and I promised myself this would be the year that I finally hit Rufus for a blast & cast.  Though I've fished Rufus many times, I'm clueless about the waterfowl hunting in that zone.  I'm curious if many of you guys have hunted that region, and if so, what are your thoughts/experiences?

Know your private lands! Big must there. Honestly, the waterfowl there this year has been pathetic at best. I'd concentrate on the trips.

Sounds like there is lots of private land.  I'd be hunting from a boat/blind.  Do you know if property rights extend into the river in that area?  Thanks for the info guys!

Last I checked with wdfw water is accessible. As long as youre not launching from private or hunting on the shore line, I.e. Getting out of your boat and hunting from land. But most waterways are good.
What would life be without the thrill of the hunt?

Yes.  Certain property rights do extend to the river on that stretch of the Columbia.  I don't see this being an issue if you're hunting out of a boat though.

On Rufus..many private landowners own out into river.  The USCOE has a private easement agreement with these landowners but it is not publics  The USCOE owns and manages a few properties on RUfus Woods.  However boats fall under navigatable waters and can be used along shores in water.  I get permission from private landowners prior to going...lots of divers and a few areas to get Widgeon and Mallards.
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!

As far as land right extending into the water. Yelp is in not correct.  I live in the area for the past 30 years and as long as you hunt out of a boat and are not beached on shore you will be fine. High water mark is accessable. No one will give you any problem but the hunting has been poor this year.

If you come by boat you should be able to go all the way to the high water mark wich is probably higher up than you think.
Lead em if they're running.
