Guess it depends on where you plan on running rabbits ... do not think those hounds want to run threw a big briar patch  :dunno: :chuckle:

Becareful what you let your dog chase, If and when they open for cats you don't want your dog chasing rabbits. I classify rabbits as trash game!!

BowHunter, i understand what time2hunt is saying.  When we hunted cat dogs we didnt want them striking anything but cats, coons, yotes, and everything else was trash.  When we got a strike we knew it was a cat and only a cat.  Some people don't mind what they catch though so its just an opinion thing.  Hunter93 if that's what you want to do and your dogs do it then go for it, running dogs is fun all around like BH45 said.  Have a buddy that ran beagles for rabbit, he said it Sounds just like a bear bay job in the brush then out pops a rabbit and a bunch of dogs.  Exciting all the same.
When you see the third, thin the herd.
Right now I'm somewhere picking up sheds.

When i was a kid i ran my favorite bluetick on rabbits...only problem was she would catch them and shred them like they were coons. I even hunted her on pheasants. Dad and i used to joke that we just carried flashcards and showed the dog what we wanted her to run. We would get her started and she would just run that critter and only that critter. It was kinda neat. She ran rabbits, pheasants, a bear, squirrels and even trout once....but that is another story.
Bang...Flop......No tracking required.

I know it makes me sick that this state has banned hound hunting ...its pothedic...But we need to keep pushing the issue ... I wish I could run to Idaho every year but its hard to get away ....when I was a kid back in P.a we had 4 blue ticks and we run the heck out of coon...back in those days I never knew about dog boxes and driving around and trying to strike them ....actually i called my best friend back in P.a a few years ago and sent him pictures of the dog boxes and the hounds with there heads sticking out and he was like WHAT HECK ... thats freaking nuts ... so we built one and next thing he knows he was building one for all his buddies ...and the best part he killed over 200 coons that winter ...just by driving around waiting for the dogs to strike ...I need to call him sometime soon and see whats cooking ...when I was a kid I walked my dogs up the creeks at night ,,,I could turn Bailey loose and she would take off like h&ll and it never was long before she started barking ...It makes me mad I never took pictures of all the sheet I killed with my dogs when I was a kid and thats why now I take alot of pictures of my kids because I want them to remember their days as a kid ....Hopefully we can get it happening again here in Washington because I need some new dogs
