They are having the mildest winters possible.   Damn coyotes might even get hungry this year.     I would think we should have a bumper crop this spring.

It should be better than the last couple years, last summer and fall I saw a better hatch than we've had for a few years and coupled with this mild winter there should be more birds on the ground than the last couple years.

The rain just hit here, it's coming your way. I'm not so sure this is  going to be a mild winter....

THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING COLDER AIR AND
MOISTURE WHICH WILL LEAD TO SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS RAIN AND SNOW
SHOWERS. THE BEST CHANCE OF SNOW ACCUMULATION WILL BE OVER THE
CASCADE EAST SLOPES AND THE NORTHEAST OREGON AND SOUTHEAST
WASHINGTON MOUNTAINS. AT LEAST SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW CAN BE
EXPECTED IN THESE AREAS FROM THIS WEATHER SYSTEM. IN THE LOWER
ELEVATIONS PRECIPITATION WILL BEGIN AS RAIN SHOWERS BUT WILL CHANGE
OVER TO SNOW SHOWERS AS COLDER AIR MOVES INTO THE REGION TONIGHT.
LITTLE OR NO SNOW ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED IN THE LOWER ELEVATIONS.

Where I was yeserday there is often 3 feet plus of snow by now.   There was virtually NONE.   Not good in other ways, but the birds aren't having to scratch too hard to dig up grub.

Looking forward to a good year. Had lots of birds behind the cabin @ the end of the late archery season. Haven't seen that many, in December,  for a few years.

Well I sure hope this winter stays as mild as possible. The deer (and turkeys) could sure use a break. Besides the wolves will need something to eat.

I sure hope you are right. It's going to my first year turkey hunting, and I'm excited to give it a go. My brother has gone for about 3 years now and I'm finally going to join him over in Lincoln. We see them and here them all the time around our place, cool birds to see running around for sure.

We need to get a few feet of snow or else it will be bad for winter wheat, alfalfa, and natural wild deer and bird browse.  Hills will parch early, deer wont get as fat as last couple years, then if we have a hard winter next year......WHat we need is our moisture plus an early spring.  Need some snow in these hills now !

ANd then theres forest fires...........
