Finally cleaned my Elkhorn
« on: January 14, 2012, 05:02:50 PM »
Back on Sept 25th I asked whether I should clean my Elkhorn between trips or wait till the season was over. Although the majority of you voted to clean it I decided to wait until after the season. It was my own little experiment.

Today I finally got around to cleaning it. Almost four months after shooting it with T7,there was absolutely no rust or corrosion to be found.

The barrel cleaned up just as easily as it did when cleaning it immediately after firing it.

I don't recommend waiting four months before cleaning, but now I'm not concerned about waiting a week between trips to clean it. As with anything, your mileage may vary.

Did you run a bore brush through it?  I often find that cuts loose a whole "second wave" of fouling out of my muzzy.  And a third... and a fourth...  and the dirty patches pile up... gotta love that part of muzzleloading! By the way, what solvent do you use?
