Release question
« on: January 16, 2012, 11:50:02 AM »
So I have an older compound bow that I have been shooting with fingers for the past couple years. My question is will a release really increase accuracy that much? and do I have to get a release loop put on my string or can I just pull straight on the string? I have an older bear kodiak special and I just want to find the best set up to shoot it accurately

Release will be more accurate.  I never shot fingers, but one of my friend used to shoot fingers.  He changed to release last year and the accuracy improved a lot.

As far as shooting off the string or loop, it doesn't really matter.  All boils down to your preference.

You don't have to shoot a loop with a release, but lots of people do. A couple of reasons to shoot a loop. Doesn't wear out your string or servings. you get NO wear shooting fingers but do with a release. A loop grabbs the string above and below the arrow doing a couple of things, consistent pressure from behind the arrow, Makes it so you always grabb the same spot, prevents slipping on the string at weird angles when drawing. Loops do not really cost much. You can install them yourself and buy a 3 pack for a couple of bucks, or go to a pro shop and have them do it for a few bucks... If you are looking at different releases then it is a great time way to try some different ones... I have shot both ways and love the loop.  :twocents:

make sure that you spend youe money on a good release, I feel Carter makes the best one out there. The one thing to make sure of on any one you get, make sure that the triger does not travel when pulling it back.

I am not inclined to spend a lot of money on this sort of thing, but I'll try to get a good one.

Or go to Sportco and get the Scott Little Goose or Bitty Goose for around $50.  This is a good release for the price.
