The massive whitetail that was laying down was huge.  BUT.....The antlers were carved out of wood!  The guy did an awesome job and I am not sure if any of the folks knew it or not, besides the other taxidermist and judges.

I knew they were fake, but didn't realize they were wood. That's impressive.

On 12/27/11 I posted all the information regarding the United Taxidermist Association Exposition and Competition at the Red Lion in Pasco on this site.  I also sent two announcements by mail to every licensed taxidermist in WA hoping the venue would be an encouragement to get out and meet each other as well as compete.  WA has not had a State Association for a number of years.  Unfortunately attendence was a little less than I had hoped for.  Nonetheless, it was a great event, with every major taxidermy supplier present, (60 vendor booth spaces sold) , 97 entries, 173 registrations, and 768 interested public viewers.  We were very happy to have a front page spread in the Tri-City Herald and a TV news brief.  There were over 40 hours of excellent instruction by world and national champion instructors.  The UTA will be traveling across the US holding an Exposition and Competition once every two years - the next one will be in Nebraska in 2014.

You can get a complete wrap up with pictures of the entries and the winners by going to the UTA Web site www.utataxidermy.com

A big thank you to those that attended - it was a great time.

Thanks for the link CRLewis, looks like some very fine work!    wished I would have attended.
