Unique Blacktail Rack
« on: January 17, 2012, 06:33:22 PM »
Didn't know rather to post this on this forum or the deer hunting forum but here are some pics of a rack from a Blacktail buck my great grandfather shot. It still has the copper band tag on its antler dated 1948.  My moms uncles were going to sale off his property and possessions but wanted family to come get whatever they wanted to take for keepsakes before they did.  I walked down into this dark unfinished basement and this thing was screwed to a center beam and I had to have it.  I have a cape for it and its getting mounted soon.  Thought I'd share this with ya guys.

Right now I'm somewhere picking up sheds.

Also would be curious to know when they stopped using tags like this.  Another thing, I believe this buck was killed in Clark County my great uncles told me he liked hunting and fishing a lot and only hunted locally where he lived, he lived in the Vancouver area.  I got a few old wood fishing lures also, and my old man got a unused box of copper cased shotgun shells, there was some neat old stuff.

Great looking old set of horns, make sure you post up pics once it's mounted.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.

I'll be sure to do that, a buddy of mine got a nice buck in the 2010 season that I caped out for him but he decided to not to do a head mount.  The cape is ready so ill be taking this in soon.

I have a  BT rack with a similar tage that my grandfather shot. Not nearly as cool looking as yours, but talk about a great way to remember...
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Yeah I wish they still used them, id keep them on all my racks.  Id even leave them on bucks I get mounted just to remember the years.  Be way to expensive I'm sure though.  I never knew they used them tell I got that rack.
