Cleaning a Antler?

I pile my sheds indoors so ill usually get a bucket of soapy water and a scrub brush and clean them first.  My question is on the part that was attached even on fresh drops there is a ring of red, can't seem to scrub it off and get it pure white.  Is there any tips to this?  I was told bleach works but idk.  Was wondering in case i do decide to cut them up and use for drawer knobs.  Also wondering a good way to polish the antler without taking to much color off?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Dont use bleach on the bases it will turn them yellow iver time.

natural is natural. 

Peroxide paste maybe.       

I wouldn't dare scrub.  I like the wood/bark and naturalness  of it.

I used a dremmel tool with a buffing wheel to polish the base on a hunting knife I made for my dad and it worked good. I would think you could polish the antler with about anything and not worry about taking too much color off.

I pick em up and brush the dirt or snow off thats about as far as I take it. If you want to make drawer pulls a grinder with a 80 or 120 wood disc cleans up the pedicle real nice, it also smooths it out and makes it look a bit polished.

I never wash any horns, but have experimented whitening a peticle.  Bleach works good, but do NOT get any on the burr.

Thanks guys for the info, I didn't want to experiment and ruin any of them, like with bleach and stuff.  I did notice the first time I washed one how much brown came off when i dried it with a light colored rag, now i do it lightly.  I mainly wash the dirt and stuff off lightly and used a scrub brush on the peticle and burr to try and get them white and the bark out of the burr.

I clean them up with water and a soft bristle brush or tooth brush.  Linseed oil for the mounts every couple years to keep the luster.  It wont damage the color and adds luster for a while.
