Quick shotgun question
« on: January 24, 2012, 07:58:20 PM »
Hey all,

I was given an 870 remington wingmaster 12 gauge that takes 2 3/4 shells or smaller. As I am no shotgun expert, I just wanted to ask if it could take slugs (might use it for deer or bear)? Anything specific I should be looking for?
Thanks~

Just make sure it has a modified or improved barrel

What is the choke ? Is it fixed and full choke you can't shoot slugs out of it. Is what I've been told.

Should say on the side of the barrel

Not sure what the choke is (or even where to find it). Other than in my youth, I rarely ever shoot shottys. I have a break barrel 20 gauge for the occasional grouse, but this new gun is all new to me.

Guess I will google a bit and learn some online info, so I dont sound like such a dolt on here. ;)

Thanks for any/all replies.

Thanks Singleshot.

The choke is basically the size of the end of the barrel which effect your shot pattern size. Most wingmasters come with full choke barrels I believe. If I was you I would go out and get me a slug barrel for it anyways which has a rifled barrel.
Let us know what you find out.
