You could always buy a Sapphire Hawk, this one has 59# set of limbs and a 48# set of limbs in absolute perfect condition.  Extra string and bow case. 

The zebra limbs on the right are 59#, the Shedua limbs on the left are 48#. Nice set of "getting to know the bow" limbs and a good, solid, carbon backed, rocket launching set....

The riser is Cocobolo and Bocote with maple and phenolic accents...

GOod luck finding a Sapphire Hawk, I finally got lucky and found a used one,  love that bow.  Kirk Lavender of Bigfoot bows is making a bow off of Ernie's Sapphire Hawk lines... shoot pretty darn good and it is a looker too...

Black Widow is a perfect choice, since it is probably the most popular brand of trad bow out there.  I don't have one, but instead got a Predator recurve.  I have a few longbows.  I assume you want a recurve (?).

Poundage:    I would get a minimum of 50lbs.   I recommend 50-55lbs.   This would serve you well for animals up to elk at reasonable distances.   Get good matching and tuned arrows, etc...

I have shot up to 65lbs, which is too much for me when hunting and cold.    I now shoot 55-57lbs.

Dont sell the criter getters short, Danny builds a good bow, he use to shoot the Black Widow but not now.

If I was gonna buy a bow right now I'd probably end up with one of the Big Foots that NWWA mentioned or a Whippenstic from Ken Rohloff....

The widows are fine bows... I've shot many and more and never disliked them, but in general, there are some customs that can really make the widow look ho hum... for about the same money or less... 2 of them, I mentioned above.

Shoot Fred, i thought you were selling too... given the "perfect condition" "string and case"...

Keep us posted on what ya do Camp David. As far as weight goes, its really a personal thing. A fact is that you will learn better shooting habits starting with a lighter draw bow, but I started with a 55# bow and never had any trouibles being a decent shot..

First,  thanks for all of the advise and thoughts. I'm still reading and looking. Not sure I really want to spend the $1200 for a bow. I'll look through all of what is available on Trad Gang to see what that has to offer. Sure would be fun to chase turkeys with a Trad this year.

There are tons of good options for WAY under 1200...

Heck, I think NWWA has a sweet bow for sale right now for like 600...

Also, some incredibly good value and interchangeable limb systems can be had at www.tradtecharchery.com  They have some foreign made bows that will shoot with any Black Widow that can be had for 600-900 bucks.
An option I would look very seriously at is the Trad Tech Titan... for $1200 you could have an incredible riser and 2 sets of limbs...and enough money left to buy some arrows.

Found it! 2011 PSA X with cocobolo riser and curly bubinga limbs. 55# Tillered for split-finger and low wrist grip. Comes with Black Widow soft case and a side quiver. $1025.00 . Found it on Trad Gang. Now I need to get some bullets for it.  any thoughts?
