My shotgun is broken
« on: January 21, 2012, 03:20:58 AM »
So at somepoint during its life My Remington 870 Security shotgun has been broken. I went to clean it tonight and noticed as I unscrewed the magazine extension that it was wobbleing as I turned it :yike: . I knew what was going on before I looked and tried to imagine it wasn't happening. Not only was it cross threaded, But it also DESTROYED the threads on the SOB. So, Here is where I am at. Can you replace the sumbeach? or should I just Jerry rig it?  :'( Thats my campin gun. It fits nicely in my pillow case and is small enough to keep in my truck when I am not at work. With a side saddle shell holder on there you can topload her real fast and I like that....Now I am un tacticool.

Now I am un tacticool.

That is not a good thing.  :bash: I'd hate to give you bad advice. I started thinking tap and dye sets at first. Not to sure what I would do. I guess I would need to be in you shoes. Sorry.  :dunno:

I have 3 dufferent tap and die sets but none that big. there is not enough metal there to do that.

You should be able to change the fore-end tube assembly yourself.

JB, if you can't do that yourself you probably shouldn't own it. I accidentally took my mag off once when I was cleaning it the first time before I long term loaned it to my god-daughters dad. It's really pretty simple.

I just assumed that the tube was welded or soldered into the receiver

Heck no! Ever hear of the extended mags for shotguns? That would make those a real PITA!  :chuckle:

The magazine extension tube is what stripped out the threading on my stock magazine tube

Let me backtrack. You are screwed. I was thinking someone else. I feel like crap for opening my mouth. It was not a remmy. Remmy's apparently are not user removeable. Apparently they involve some thorough work. I really feel  bad now man. I really apologize for getting your hopes up.

Sweet deal man. Where are you? I've been looking for a decent smith to clean up and old 94. According to the blow up in the owner's manual you may be able to remove a bolted piece to the receiver that is permanently attached to the mag. I used the online generic 870 owners manual here to find it. I know with guns just about anything is possible
