Sources Say Joe Paterno Has Died

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Joe Paterno, who racked up more wins than anyone else in major college football but was fired from Penn State amid a child sex abuse scandal has died. He was 85.

His family released a statement Sunday morning to announce his death.

Paterno's son Scott announced Nov. 18 that his father was being treated for lung cancer, which was diagnosed in mid-November during a follow-up visit for a bronchial illness.

The storied career of "JoePa" included 409 wins in 46 seasons and two national championships.

But his reputation for success with honor was shattered when a former assistant was charged with molesting 10 boys during a 15-year span, including some in the Penn State athletic complex.

Critics said Paterno should have done more to stop it. He was fired Nov. 9.

In all, Paterno guided five teams to unbeaten, untied seasons.

No tear from me. I dont cry for Chimo's. Or people who allow Chimos to continue ruining childrens lives. If you see it and dont stop it your just as wrong. Wonder if they have football in hell?

That's to bad. ESPN has been reporting the story all morning. Regardless of how his carrier ended, That was one of the most successful football coaches that ever lived. It's too bad that his ship went down before he passed.  R.I.P. Joe.

Thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He was one of the best coaches of all time and has done a lot for that university. I always enjoyed watching Joe Pa coach and I hope people are here show some class and don't turn this into a bash Joe Pa thread

Yeah thoughts and prayers to his family.  Good man that did a lot of great things for the sport and Penn State as a whole.  Can't help but think he died from the hurt (along with Cancer) that he ended up fielding from his own shortcomings.  I'm sure people will bash him and he could've done more (self-admittedly) but he was indeed a classy, professional man.

For those of you that weren't around when the Bear retired, he was also gone within two months of stepping down.

I don't know the mans' heart. My hope is that he has found complete forgiveness and eternal love in the arms of Christ. I live for this same hope. Let's not remember the man for his failings but for his great successes. Thanks for the memories Joe!!!!
